Publisher's summary

A lone wolf cub struggling to survive mutates into a creature possessing unpredictable—even human—abilities in this grimdark fantasy adventure series.

Somewhere in the toxic Bone Pits, where mechanical nightmares roam, an emaciated and wounded young wolf clings to life. Wracked with pain, driven by instinct, it crawls across the subterranean landscape, avoiding the unnatural horrors that dwell there and seeking sustenance while fending off rats, insects, and other vermin stalking it as prey.

Then it encounters a deity who collects human souls and is astonished to discover a wolf, as its species has been extinct for centuries. The god spares the wolf, bestowing the wretched beast with the means to survive until it eventually acquires the power of heightened intelligence and the ability to alter its physiology, turning into a shapeshifting monstrosity.

Part of an adventuring party scouring the tunnels, the elf Emhreeil was injured and left for dead. Blind and with broken limbs, she suffers in unbearable agony, waiting for her body to quit—or for something to devour her. When the wolf finds Emhreeil, it pounces on the opportunity to learn human speech from the pitiful being incapable of protecting herself.

Now, Emhreeil is the wolf's de facto companion as it struggles to escape the Bone Pits, dragging her through the twisted labyrinth and fighting the vicious predators hiding in the shadows. And with every battle, the wolf evolves in self-awareness and cunning, mutating into a creature that nature never meant to breed . . .

awesome first start

I went into this thinking that what it would be kind of like a reincarnation book by the description but I don't think it is it's got small tidbits that scream reincarnation but otherwise it's pretty much not it's just about a wolf that thinks it's a wolf and is not smarter than a wolf other than when the system gives it information but it still acts like a wolf getting stronger not murder hoboing everything but eating a lot of things, can't wait for the next in the series might just have to go over to Royal Roads and read some to see how everything plays out without having to wait for the next audiobook

That narration!

This was so weird and I loved it.
If you read lit rpg and want something new and different I recommend this (I don’t recommend it for anyone new to lit rpg)

It is VERY descriptive and the gore will make you physical cringe but it’s sooooo well written.

Trigger warning for attempted sexual assault (revenge is taken out on attackers)

It’s good

It’s good but you don’t even get a hint of story or plot until you’re a quarter left in the book but still I like it and want the next book

Intriguing perspective

I'm extremely invested in not only Wolf but also, surprisingly Emhreeil. Her character development is excellent. I look forward to seeing Wolf grow into himself and hopefully the two staying a pack. Which of course means finding each other. The world building is also done nicely, no long winded info - dumping but enough details to flesh out the world as the story progresses. Altogether very good book!

I like this book. it's different

it's a great book. different take. my only issue it the introduction of iralivent characters. it wasn't clear if those were future versions of these ppl or what the purpose of their inclusion was.

We want more.

Strange and very entertaining. I am disappointed there is only one book in the series so far.

Plenty going on, plenty of unanswered questions

I must commend the author. It would be too easy to hand the MC the world, to allow it's skills make everything easy. Sure it does appear that the MC is overpowered at times but then it gets it's ass kicked.

I like the mystery the author leaves about the world. I like the communication issues as it complicates things. I can't wait for the sequel.
