Publisher's summary

This exciting audio drama is based on an immensely popular podcast that has received hundreds of positive reviews and has had over four million downloads - and counting.

For Army Reserve soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knows it ends in an instant. One minute he’s in college, and the next rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive.

The first season features 12 chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discover that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post apocalyptic Los Angeles, where the rules of human decency no longer apply.

Little food. Little water. Little hope. Who is lucky enough to say "We're Alive"?

Critic reviews

We’re Alive is a modern rendition of an old-school medium. Maintaining a style that is both retro and contemporary, the radio drama will give horror fans the campy, kitschy style they like, but it also provides a variety of characters and development to keep general audiences engaged…Despite not being able to see the action, the excitement and intensity is still sustained through score and sound design. In some ways, the lack of visuals to accompany the audio creates more suspense. The narrator controls how much the audience knows, slowly teasing out information. Accompanying the drama are sparse moments of comedic relief…Expressing a keen awareness of the zombie subgenre, many of the jokes come from familiar scenarios and tropes of zombie stories.” (Examiner.com)

Not predictable and keeps you wide awake

This book isn’t your typical zombie story, if your a gamer I’d say it will remind you of “left 4 dead”. The book is quite interesting and a pleasure to hear/read. Honestly I liked it a lot.

Zombies galore and booms bangs a plenty

Think 28days later but in California, and they get by with the skin of their teeth sometimes. Honestly one of my favorite series when it first came out. So happy it’s on audible now.

Fantastic-unique audio drama-excellent story

If you could sum up We’re Alive in three words, what would they be?

Unique audio drama

Who was your favorite character and why?

Michael because he's the leader and full of flaws yet keeps giving it his all

Which character – as performed by Blackstone Audiobooks – was your favorite?

Sal because he's a bad a$$

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The audio drama recording is unique - many different voices you recognize along with special effects/sounds. Plus, story line is great.

Any additional comments?

A great story - one of the best zombie series. If you like DBD Armageddon, The Road, The Passage, The Strain...etc then you'll definitely like this audio story!

SAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of We’re Alive to be better than the print version?

MOST DEFINITELY. . ..EXCEPT I HAVENT READ THE PRINT VERSION, BUT THE AUDIO PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP CHARACTER IDENTITY BY VOICE, ACCENTS, (IE RILEY AND DATU)!

What was one of the most memorable moments of We’re Alive?

I LISTENED TO ALL THREE (AND IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR SERIES 4) BUT THE MOST MEMORABLE IS DATU'S CAPTURE IN THE STADIUM AND THE DEATH OF SAMANTHA. SHE PLAYS SUCH A SHORT ROLE, BUT IMMEDIATELY SHE CAPTURES THE SPIRIT OF THE WHOLE BOOK!

Have you listened to any of Blackstone Audiobooks’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

THIS IS THE FIRST AND THIS ONE INSPIRED ME TO PURCHASE MORE DRAMATIZED!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

DON'T KNOW BUT SOMETHING ABOUT SAUL!!!!

Any additional comments?

SAUL IS STUBBORN, DOESN'T LISTEN, HEAD STRONG, YET HE IS A SUPER SOLDIER! I TOO SERVED OVERSEAS AND LOVE HIS CHARACTER! NOW ON THE BATTLEFIELD WITH A SOLDIER LIKE THAT I WOULD PROBABLY PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE, BUT HE GETS THE JOB DONE AND DOES NOT OVERTHINK IT! SKILLzzz!

Good YA

I think my teenager would like this. It was a little too pedestrian and juvenile for me. The back-and-forth, the stupid insults…it was annoying.

The performance was good in that the sound effects were great and the characters did a good job playing their roles.

I would personally not use a credit for this, but only because it’s more YA—not because it sucks.
