Publisher's summary

A survivor of 20 years of abuse and battles that would destroy most, from incest to sexual molestation, physical and verbal abuse, rape, and abandonment, speaks out.

I am a woman who knows my past and understands that my experiences are purely lessons meant to bring me closer to self-knowledge and unconditional self-love. I also know that without God, I am nothing. My life was Perfectly Planned by the Lord himself.

Abuse is like AIDS: It has no prejudice. Demographics, nationality, gender, religion, or age cannot spare you. If you are uneducated and unprotected, you can become a victim of abuse. The effects it has on your mind, body, and soul will devour you.

I was a victim, but now I am a survivor, and the purpose of this book is to inspire you to forgive yourself and your abuser(s). It was written to educate you on how to not allow your past to dominate your present and future as well as to accept, own, and embrace your past. Understand that there is life after abuse.

So ask yourself one question: Has it ever happened to you? If you answered yes, then listen to this book and free your mind. If you answered no, then listen to this book and cultivate your mind.

Kelly is a walking miracle

It’s hard to fathom the abuse that children suffer at the hands of pedophiles and other abusers. And harder yet to see them grow through the trauma and come out on the other side a healthy, kind and genuine soul who’s life mission is to help others. Kudos, Kelly, for transformation. You truly are an inspiration.
One issue with the narration is that in several places in the book, sentences are repeated. It was kind of distracting.

Raw Real & Relatable

I actually really loved this book. I was a little iffy at first, but I’m so glad I took a chance on it. I got immediately hooked other people reviewed it as poorly written I personally believe it was written perfectly to show the reader who she really was at that time in her life the way she talked her grammar, her slang words. Not only is it a biography, but it’s also extremely inspirational a little bit of life coaching in that as well. Lots of positive talk! And the ending was amazing. She makes you feel really good about life being a woman and also anyone who comes from poverty abuse, and especially for African-American women. I’m not African-American, but I felt like this would really resonate for people who are. I enjoyed it so much I shared it with a bunch of friends and they’re all into it as well.

Shouldn't get Any Stars!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book is poorly written, even more poorly narrated. And while I thought it would give me insight into working with victims of sexual assault, it merely was a very poor attempt at porn, in my humble opinion; which I do not wish to read.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kelly R. Porter again?

Probably not

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration was awful. When narrating words of the author, the tone never changed from a very young child... even as the story line progressed the author in age.

Any additional comments?

I do not recommend this book. I would not give it any stars at all in my review, if that were possible.
