Publisher's summary

When hockey phenom Billie-Jo Barker returns home and decides to play in the local Friday night hockey league, all hell breaks loose. Not because Billie's talent is in question but because Billie is a woman. And though these are modern times, some of the local guys still have a problem letting a girl into their "men's club".

Soon Billie is at the center of a small -own battle of the sexes, with everyone choosing sides. Her sisters. The townsfolk. Her friends. And yet the only person whose opinion she cares about doesn't seem to care much at all. Logan Forest, the man who broke her heart when she was 18 and the man she now shares the bench with every Friday night.

She's got a lot to prove. Though Billie-Jo Barker scores on the ice, will this girl ever score with the man of her dreams?

Hockey, Ice and Everything Nice

Billie and Logan are an unlikely duo. Real life issues , family and community dynamics, and a secret or two from the past stack up against this sports heroine and hard working town “playboy”.

The plot moves fast, almost as fast as their slap shots on the ice.

Will these two make it for the long haul or will this attraction burn out?

Big fan of this Barker sister

I would give this a 3.5. For the most part I enjoyed the main characters Bille-Jo and Logan. Billie-Jo is a retired hockey player who returns home. She causes trouble when she wants to join the all guys hockey league. I admire her spunk and her strength. Most of the town isn't happy with her when she joins and some go out of their way to let her know. One person who isn't happy with her is her own sister.

Billie-Jo is just trying to put her life back together after an injury ends her hockey career. I was shocked at how some of her neighbors and her own family react to her being back in town. For the most part I liked Logan. He did have a few moments when he acted stupid, but he did redeem himself.

Good but didn't seem too long.

I enjoyed the female lead. I also liked her friendship with Shane, which is why I moved on to book 2 after finishing this one. The story is in a small town with small town thinking at the center of the story. Billy-jo is trying to find her way now that she was forced to return home only to face opposition for being a girl. She and her sisters also face family problems but even with all the tension, the writer is still able to show their deeper feelings for one another. It is a good listen.

Small town drama times two...er, three

This is my first book from the author, and I must say the small-town drama is engaging. However, I have to admit that the first few chapters of the book are every feminist's worst nightmare (also, it got me thinking, is this how passionate those conservative, MAGA-like zealots are? It's borderline inhumane, and can't blame other people hating them, that's for sure!). But then, I also say it added spice to the story, aside from the family conflict the Barker family had. Contrastingly, the romance angle of the story had a slow development. I think I got more invested in the family drama than our MCs. Although I admit that the sexy times are steamy, it is still not enough to give me the "romantic feels," if you know what I mean.

I think the highlight of this production is the narration done by Maxine Mitchell. My first impression is that I think she has a very perky voice. I do not think it matches the tone and theme of the story. Still, as I listened, her dramatic monologues captured the characters' emotions; even her male voices taunting one another were practically enrapturing. I am glad she got me wrong on that first impression.

Girl hockey!

This was a fun story about a small town girl who comes home after she gets a career ending injury from playing professional hockey. The folks in her town are not very open minded when she joins a amateur hockey league that plays for fun, since she's a woman. The hero feels that they should just shut up and leave her alone. The story is entertaining and the narration is great, Maxine Mitchell can narrate anything.
