Publisher's summary

Destiny called and Chance answered. But the challenges before him have only just begun.

Freshly promoted to Novitiates in the Republic’s Seventh "Fortuna" legion, Chance and his friends embark on far harsher instruction to learn the ways of the heavy infantry. The backbone of every legion for more than a thousand years.

At the same time, he struggles to understand and keep secret the strange powers that seem to have been bestowed upon him. Power that he has no idea how to control.

Using her magic and influence, Mischief continues her work in the shadows to destabilize the realm on multiple fronts, which will soon force Chance to put his new powers and skills to the test as her sinister plan comes into focus.

Chance and the rest of the newly established Tenth Company will battle against both human and beast as they try to stop her plot from spreading.

Now that the fires have been stoked, will Chance triumph in the fight for his life?

This is a GREAT story!

This series just gets better and better. Basic training is over and now it's time for the boys to become men and actually use their training for real. Let's see, what else can I say without spoiling things? The love interests get more complicated. His magic shows up several times which causes some issues. Oh, and there is a huge fight and the end with an m-f-ing cliffhanger. Excellent book all the way through.

fantastic progress from the first book.

the narrator does a great job in this and any audio issues from the first seem to be completely gone in this book.
the story continues to be fantastic with some character growth, hints at stories to come.
I got this right after finishing the first and man I can't wait for the third.
I am also I interested In the possible spin off series though I deeply hope we get plenty more books with chance and his journey threw the legions and the fate he is destined.

Legion training

This is book 2. We have more training for our group as well as Chance getting better control of his powers. More is revealed about magic and the gods and is lined up for a great book 3. Narration is great and enjoyable.

Our MC is moving on up.

Our Aspirant is now a Novitiate.
Great slice of life Roman military boot camp training series, so far.
If you like the ins and outs along with the minutia of what it might be like in the "day in the life" of a magical wielding Roman soldier, this is the series for you.
It starts to get into some action towards the end when a mage takes their group out to subdue a town rebelling against the empire. And the MC is starting to use his goddess given power and weapon. He can't let the mage know he has magic but the mage is already suspicious.

Enjoy this series

This series is a refreshing addition to the genre. It is a great combination of history, fantasy and magic. With a dash of mystery as more questions arise. I look forward to exploring the answers

honestly great

So the first book was world/character building, the second really deepend the plot and set up for the next book. UT had the start of some action but hasn't taken off yet. hopefully the next one is action packed but we'll see. only criticism/worry is the gods interviening too much and detracting from the MC I kind of felt it in this one but it wasn't bad but if the author isn't careful it could go that way and ruin the book. I'm ok with them in a bit but you've gotta let the MC and supporting character make thier own decisions and not be held by the hands. it's the start of the series so there's gotta be some so I understand just hopefully in future books if evertime he's in trouble he gets saved by the gods it almost ruins it! but overall so far I'd rate
world building 10/10
character building 8.5/10
story arc 8/0
narration 10/10
excitement for the next book 10/10 ;) thx for the book, keep up the good work!!!!
