Publisher's summary

A report on how the greed of a privileged few, subsidized by public funding, creates substantial profits for themselves from mass human suffering. This was a speech given by General Butler during a nationwide tour in the early 1930's, but it applies even more today! Listen as he frankly discusses, from his experience as a career military officer, how business interests commercially benefit from warfare. He then suggests several practical solutions for reducing the pillage.

Outdated but

Still can be comparable to, today's war for profits. I enjoyed this book, short and sweet and to the point.

Excellent Timeless Listen

Even though this was written decades ago, it is perfectly written to explain what is happening today.

Thought provoking

General Butler is clearly a man who saw horrible things during the first world war. Many of the promises of his book seem to have been disproven by the Second World War, but are unfortunately just as applicable to modern conflicts as they were to our expeditionary ones at the beginning of the 20th century.

A must read for everyone

Smedley Butler, hero among Marines, breaks down why war is a front for corporations and expansion no matter how patriotic the propaganda for it is. Despite being written before WWII, this is still perfectly true and applicable today. This should be a must read for all Americans, and really all people everywhere.

War is a Racket

Mr. Butler didn't know it at the time, but what he accurately described is what we know today as the military industrial complex.

Relevant still

When you think that this book was written before World War II and it still very relevant it's important that more people hear the story.

With the election pending I wish more people do distracted we are of the real story

When you want to know the truth follow the money

just as important as ever

The style of the audiobook takes some getting used to, but the argument and narrative is compelling and this book is still as important as it was all those years ago.
