Publisher's summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling account of a neurosurgeon's own near-death experience—for fans of 7 Lessons from Heaven.

Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. A highly trained neurosurgeon, Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress.

Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion—and in essence makes us human—shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then, as his doctors considered stopping treatment, Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back.

Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere. While his body lay in coma, Alexander journeyed beyond this world and encountered an angelic being who guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. There he met, and spoke with, the Divine source of the universe itself.

Alexander’s story is not a fantasy. Before he underwent his journey, he could not reconcile his knowledge of neuroscience with any belief in heaven, God, or the soul. Today Alexander is a doctor who believes that true health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of personal existence but only a transition.

This story would be remarkable no matter who it happened to. That it happened to Dr. Alexander makes it revolutionary. No scientist or person of faith will be able to ignore it. Listening to it will change your life.

"Eben Alexander brings a unique perspective to the sacred world combining a glorious, personal vision of spiritual consciousness with patient, insightful scientific inquiry. Proof of Heaven is a compelling story of what may lie ahead for all of us in the life beyond this one. We have nothing to fear." (Allan J. Hamilton, MD, FACS, author of The Scalpel and the Soul and Zen Mind, Zen Horse)

"I can highly recommend this important book that has the potential to break many scientific taboos." (Dr. Pim van Lommel, cardiologist, author of Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience)

an inspiring testimony of miracles and faith

What a marvelous testimony of family, faith and miracles. That the author is the narrator makes this personal account all the more real. His intelligence and his sincerity are clear.

My prayer is that those who believe will be encouraged, and those who don't believe as they listen to the first chapter, will believe as they listen to the last.

Amazing story

Where does Proof of Heaven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I listen usually to fiction; this is non-fiction. It is an incredible and spiritual experience, just to listen to it. I have a daughter and son-in-law who are neurologists, MDs who are specially trained in the brain, like Dr. Alexander except their specialty is the chemistry, not the surgery, so I am keenly aware of the training they all had. His training makes his insights on this all the more credible. And it makes it all more amazing. I would recommend it to anyone, of any background, and intend to share it with many members of my family.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Proof of Heaven?

Probably his analysis in the Appendix of the things that his experience cannot be because of the non-functioning of his neo cortex during the time of his illness.

Which character – as performed by Eben Alexander – was your favorite?

Himself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Same as the title.

Any additional comments?

I would be interested to know how the books does; it was just released two months ago.

An inspiring Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Proof of Heaven to be better than the print version?

I did not read the book but I certainly enjoyed the audible book.

What other book might you compare Proof of Heaven to and why?

Life after Life. Out of body experiences which I myself have had.

What does Eben Alexander bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I believe so. Speaking of the experience is better than reading the book

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What Eternity Holds

Any additional comments?

This was my first audible book and I just purchased four more. I'm sold....

Something for everyone to hear ! Truly Amazing !

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is an honest account of a person who experienced moving beyond the thin veil of life on earth to life beyond this earth. It is not a coincidence that Eben Alexander had this experience. He has devoted his life to the study of Neurosurgery and found there is more to what science can provide. To much of his surprise there is more to know about life than what we know now. What a comforting and pleasurable book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eben Alexander lists several people that were part of his experience. He explains what part they had in his recovery and how it was important. He leaves his account to be just be available to the reader. A highly educated person of little faith changed his perspective after experiencing another dimension.

What does Eben Alexander bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Eben Alexander narrates this book with his own voice that reveals his passion in telling his story .

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Glimpse into the Afterlife

Any additional comments?

I just loved the book - I know some of the people mentioned and felt such a strong sense of understanding....

Can not recommend highly enough

Much in the way the author struggles to describe the fullness of God, of heaven and of his experience within the confines of the human written and spoken word, (rudimentary by comparison) I too am struggling to find words adequate enough to convey depth and breath of emotion, connection and deep understanding I felt while listening to this book. In part because it deeply resonated with what I've felt and attempted to convey to others for so long and somehow always knew but also because it led me to understand that it (life, heaven, God, love, knowledge, etc. etc.) was far more meaningful than even I (with my "far out" new age Christian views) had even fathomed. If I was told I could only recommend one book from here on out, this would be it. All other books, fiction or non, will be greatly enhanced by reading this one first. It is the purest lens of universal context and wisdom that I have encountered thus far. Pure love.

Highly credible and personal account.

If you could sum up Proof of Heaven in three words, what would they be?

Refreshing scientific viewpoint.

What about Eben Alexander’s performance did you like?

I actually appreciated that it wasn't a "performance." It was a reading of the book, by the author (a Doctor), with expected normal emotion (minor welling up in the voice a couple of times). It was so very credible from his point of view, let alone from his experience.I'm an engineer. I appreciate truth and facts. I dismiss most accounts of improbable events the moment I sense either some author-motivated personal gain or simpler explanation. Neither were present in this account - in fact, just the opposite. I wanted the clearest, most objective, most accountable peek into what we cannot measure (without actually experiencing it myself). For me, this is it, in spades.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Life, Part 2.
