Publisher's Summary

On his first presidential visit to address the European nations, President Obama felt it necessary to apologize for America’s international power. He repeated that apology when visiting Latin America, and again to Muslims worldwide in an interview broadcast on Al-Arabiya television.

In No Apology, Mitt Romney asserts that American strength is essential—not just for our own well-being, but for the world’s. Governments such as China and a newly robust Russia threaten to overtake us on many fronts, and Islam continues its dangerous rise. Drawing on history for lessons on how great powers collapse, Romney shows how and why our national advantages have eroded. From the long-term decline of our manufacturing base, our laggard educational system that has left us without enough engineers, scientists, and other skilled professionals, our corrupted financial practices that led to the current crisis, and the crushing impact of entitlements on our future obligations, America is in debt, overtaxed, and unprepared for the challenges it must face. We need renewal: fresh ideas to cut through complicated problems and restore our strength.

Creative and bold, Romney proposes simple solutions to rebuild industry, create good jobs, reduce out-of-control spending on entitlements and health care, dramatically improve education, and restore a military battered by eight years of war.

Most important, he calls for a new commitment to citizenship, a common cause we all share, rather than a laundry list of individual demands. Many of his solutions oppose President Obama’s policies, many also run counter to Republican thinking, but all have one strategic aim: to move America back to political and economic strength. Personal and dynamically-argued, No Apology is a call to action by a man who cares deeply about America’s history, its promise, and its future.

"You can like this book without being a Republican."

I have never voted Republican and I have no intention of voting for Mitt Romney but I like to read or listen to the books written by all the major political players. I feel that a book is the best way for a politician to get his/her true message out without being subject to 30 second sound bites. I have listened to many and more of these books. Mitt Romney's "No Apology" is the best of the bunch both for his excellent/personal reading of it and for the clear and concise way he states his political positions. I disagree with a lot of what he says but I have to give him credit for writing and reading an excellent book. If you are interested in American politics this book is worth reading regardless of your personal politics.

    "Very Entertaining-a REAL Surprise"
If you could sum up No Apology in three words, what would they be?

    EntertainingInformativeInspiring

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Romey the worker.

Have you listened to any of Mitt Romney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    My first

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when ever he talked about making things work. You have to work with what you have.

    Any additional comments?

Our current President had published two books-I read them both-before election day. I felt to be informed, I needed to read this book too. (I also like that the book was published well before the primary season when canidates morph.) It appears the choices will be between Obama and Romney. Romney is a problem solver. Listen to this book and get past the sound bites to what he thinks on a large variety of subjects.

"Chapter3 stretches facts, some of which are untrue"

At least it streches facts about international affairs with Putin's Russia that "never returns favors". Two examples from the book are untrue:
    1. U.S. agreed to not install missiles in Poland (less than 400 miles from Russia! - unbelievable, think about the Cuban crisis in 1960s), in exchange for Russia not installing missiles in Kaliningrad (more than 4000 miles from the U.S.), i.e. this specific favor was returned generously
    2. It was the U.S. side that stalled the negotiations on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty recently.

I wonder if the China and Iran arguments or facts may also be a bit exaggerated in any way for any reason, but I cannot comment on those.

Otherwise the book is extremely good at explaining the rationale behind the modern U.S. conservative position on important issues - I never understood them as fully as I do now. Very well done! Thank you!

"there IS a way to fix the economy!"

Highly recommended to anyone who cares about the country. If you don't think Romney should be President, fine...but after reading this you will certainly agree he should be Secretary of the Treasury. Political junkies might prefer to fast forward the biographical stuff and get straight to his plan to fix Social Security and Medicare. I listened to it twice because I didn't believe it could be done. After the "stimulus" and debt we've gotten, the country needs a turnaround artist. Romney knows how it's done. And the best part is, he doesn't have any ego or anything to prove; he sincerely loves this country and wants to help it. If you do too, listen.

"what you need to know about how the world works"

Romney presents a powerful overview of numerous key issues at the root of problems facing America and the corresponding solutions dealing with our economy and personal prosperity, our national strength and worldwide influence, and overall American greatness. Romney highlights key issues and presents a conceptual framework for how to address these things. He clearly demonstrates a fundamental understanding of these critical issues and paints a picture of the type of thought process that is crucially needed in order to solve our greatest challenges and again be the world's symbol of people pioneering for peace, prosperity, and freedom.

"Great Policy Overview for this candidate"

Well written, and well read by Mitt Romney. His discussion of childhood family experiences and their impact on his compassionate conservative political views was enjoyable and enlightening. Anyone with a traditional Republican position on political goals for America will love this book as I did.
    Go get em Mitt.

    "Outstanding"

If you believe in self-sufficiency, independence, accountability, a strong defense, a balanced budget and in keeping your rights, freedom and money and liked Atlas Shrugged, then you will enjoy this read. Yes, its academic, but its understandable and his points are well documented and true. Its a book for the productive citizens of America. If your a moocher or a looter... don't bother to read it, it will just confuse you.

    "12 Hour Research Paper"

The content is really worth while, and I can see Romney's practical approach to our nation's problems being exactly what we need. With that said however, it's an incredibly dry listen and laid out like a college term paper. If you're anticipating a conservative "Audacity of Hope," then this is absolutely not your book. On the other hand, if you're taking an honest look at potential presidential candidates then, this is a worthwhile experience.

"America: Noble Past & Bright Future"

Agree or disagree, you will definitely understand Mr. Romney's political views and, more importantly, the reason he holds them. I highly recommend "No Apology" for the following reasons:
    (1) It is clear, concise, and well written. There is no extra 'filler' to pad the pages.
    (2) It provides an excellent overview of today's current affairs, both national and international.
    (3) Multiple solutions are presented for many social issues. These solutions will cause you to think outside of the typical conservative or liberal box. (Although the solutions are generally conservative in nature, not all are.)
    (4) Mr. Romney provides several brief synopsis of history to make some of his points. These historical summaries are very good.
    (5) Finally, "No Apology" presents the nobility of America's past and presents hope for America's future. As the subtitle states, this excellent book makes the case for America's greatness.

    "Impressive"

Romney is very smart, has great experience as a business man and a leader. In the book he lays out major common sense policy initiatives. Impressive, unfortunately the USA will never benefit from his leadership in the oval office.
