Darwin on Trial | [Phillip E. Johnson]

Darwin on Trial

Darwin's theory of evolution is accepted by most educated Americans as simple fact. This easy acceptance, however, hides from us the many ways in which evolution - as an idea - shapes our thinking about a great many things. What if this idea is wrong? What if "evolution" is just a word that covers up scientific ignorance of how the wonders of the living world could have been created? Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson looks at the evidence for Darwinistic evolution the way a lawyer would - with a cold dispassionate eye for logic and proof.

His discovery is that scientists have put the cart before the horse. They prematurely accepted Darwin's theory as fact and have been scrambling to find evidence for it - mostly unsuccessfully. As the evidentiary difficulties have piled up, scientists have clung to the theory out of fear of encouraging religious fundamentalism, and in the process have turned belief in Darwinism into their own religion.

"Great book! Very open and exposing"

The author did a great job of not bashing Darwin but at the same time exposing the problems and bias when it comes to dealing with evolution. For those that don't just accept things the way they are presented but like to ask questions.
If you are interested in hearing a different point of view this book is for you.

The book is okay, but the narrator is a bad fit for this book. He might be a okay for novels but it was very difficult to listen to him narrate this book. I wish the narrator different because it distracted me from the content of the book. As for the content of the book, there were some good points. If the narrator was better I probably would have gotten more out of this.

"False religion is exposed in this book: Evolution"

Today the theory of evolution is considered a fact but proof of evolution has still to be presented (molecule to men). This book brilliantly outlines how the ungodly evolutionists perpetrated the biggest lie on the public. THis is a must read and well worth the purchase. Evolution is not the same as science and remains a theory or rather to say a religion; faith is required to believe thatthe big bang happened. A belief in the big bang rules out God thereby rulling out any hope of a future

    "Pretty good book"

I quite liked this book. I would certainly disagree with the reviewers who felt that this book was a fraud, or that it contained no facts, etc. In fact, I haven't really seen what I would consider a good post against it here (granted, as I write this, there are only 9 reviews, some of those are positive, so it's not a real large sample) The book does a good job of laying out why the author believes there are holes in Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Thoe who claim that it pushes "Creationism" are clearly listening with a bias, as it does no such thing. The author spends his time pointing out what he believes are flaws in Darwin's theory & sharing why he thinks so. If you are a die-hard evolutionist, you will probably hate the book. If you are a die-hard creationist, you will probably love it. If you are open minded about these kinds of things, you may well find it interesting to hear this perspective on the argument.

"FANTASTIC - DEFINITELY WORTH A LISTEN"

    This book is excellent!!!.
Phillip Johnson clearly and methodically explores the Evolution controversy and presents the issue in a manner which removes the fog and produces clarity.

The Evolutionary Nazis will hate this book because it clearly and forcefully documents the deception which is being thrust upon our teenagers in the science classroom. Johnson spends time to define what is meant by "Evolution" and explains the difference between Micro evolution, which is observable science, and Darwinian/Macro evolution which is not observable and is believed by faith.

Johnson documents the case that Micro evolution is scientifically supportable but Macro evolution is not.

I thoroughly recommend this book to all who care about the deception being perpetrated onto trusting teens.

This book dovetails well with another Audible.com free book Kansas School Board - Evolutionary Hearings. These hearings contain the testimony of many prominent scientists who dissent from Darwinism and give convincing scientific evidence against Darwinian/Macro evolution.

    "perfectly awful"

The law & science are different disciplines. I am all in favor of legalistic analyses of legal issues, including issues of social policy. But the legal discipline is an inappropriate way to approach scientific issues that are founded on provable hypotheses & experimentation. This book, which I read rather than listened to, is a book of religious argumentation, using legalistic means to put the point across. It is about as far from science as you can get. Which makes it pretty poor stuff. I also thought it wasn't very well written, but my views may have been colored by the authors completely illogical religio-legalistic conclusions about science.

"This is why OJ got off"

An absolutely blistering indictment on the entire foundation of the legal industry, and the appalling abuses we can commit with language. I'm reminded of something the great Dr Pauli (of Pauli exclusion principle fame) once said about a paper he was asked to review: "This isn't right. It isn't even wrong."

    "better off with another book"

As much fun as it is to listen to a lawyer for seven hours this book is a waste of time. Their are no facts either for nor against darwins ideas just words twisted in a way that only a lawyer could do. If your intrest is in creationism you would be better of listening to some thing more reciently published.

    "Scientifically Illiterate"

Johnson once again shows his complete lack of understanding about science as a way of thinking and knowing. This thinly veiled attempt to bring biblical literalism into the scientific debate shows ignorance of both science and the doctrine of many major religions.

    "The inability of Darwinian Evolution"

This book showcases the fact that darwinian evolution lacks the very component whereby it claims to operate; the addition of new information to the genome. Written by a professor of law with an interest in the debate. A Christian but not a Young Earther. Whilr not an expert in science, is in the fiel of debate and understands the tactics used by those who want to convince others of their position.
