Publisher's summary

Dragons used to rule the world; those days are over. But humans, mages, and dragons have just begun learning to co-exist without conflict.

Kylara Diamantine has never met another dragon. Raised by her mother apart from the rest of their society without any idea why, she's always been curious about the rest of their species. She wants to get out there, to meet other dragons, to explore! To stretch her wings. Literally.

Be careful what you wish for, they say. They're right.

After a devastating magical attack on their home leaves Ky's mother missing, she's placed at a special school for her protection. A school for dragons - but this year, for the first time, mages will be attending alongside their scale-y fellow students to learn more about magic and draconic powers.

The attacker who stole away Kylara's mother isn't finished yet and turns up the heat on the school. Ky's dragon powers keep growing in mysterious ways, but will even that be enough to save her?

Ky is a stranger in a place she doesn't know, under attack and desperate to find her missing mother. She'll need all her courage and strength to survive the tests ahead of her.

Strong female protagonist.

Another fun story that ties into previous world (Steel Dragon) created by Michael Anderle . Old friends and new ones.

Great Story

I don't the fact that many writers feel they have to include using God's name as a cuz word. Which makes me not
able to purchase other books they write, Great story bad language puts me off, That's to bad,

A YA dragon book about a heroine discovering power

What I was wanting from a YA dragon/mage school book. The soft magic system was hard to understand in the beginning, but it built well after it got going. I enjoyed the the strength of the heroine that wasn't too much. not all the characters were well rounded but I think I'll listen to the next book in the series. On a side note, I wish the concept of her being homeschooled was explored more and that i knew how much human contact she actually had.

Meh

I wish i read this when younger, might have enjoyed it more. Story feels forced and tropey as an adult. Useless red hearings were tossed in to keep you guessing but then ignored later on, which feels as if the story was changed and not all old references fixed. Interesting concept though, but a bit too busy for me. Torn on if i can ignore the writing "style" and continue the series or not.
