Publisher's summary

What if we understood faith crisis as part of a natural cycle of spiritual growth, a breaking open to make room for new life and new faith? In the new book Navigating Mormon Faith Crisis, Thomas McConkie draws on the study of adult development to provide a map for people who find themselves in faith crisis, fearing they might have taken a wrong turn in their spiritual progression. This developmental perspective helps listeners understand that they haven't necessarily drifted off course; they might have simply run up against the edge of their current map. Understanding how humans—and faith—grow and mature over time can offer tremendous stability and confidence to those who would press forward in the discovery of their own changing identity.

This new framework enables the LDS community, and indeed any faith community facing similar struggles, to view faith crisis not as a symptom of apostasy, but of a deeper and fuller redemption. The listener finds that crisis may represent the awakening of a new kind of faith, one beyond mere belief, that may very well represent a new dawn in the unfolding of the world's religious traditions.

Very helpful

I was able to find myself in each of the stages of development with exception to strategist as much of it feels foreign to me, I suppose something to grow into.

brought me calm

With family members leaving the church, this book brought me greater understanding of their journey. This also calmed my own spirit during these changing times.

An inclusive look at faith crisped

In this book Thomas McConkie metaphorically wraps his arms around every member of the LDS church and says “You matter, we all have much to learn from you.”

Great Insight

A friend of mine recommended this. It provides a lot of great information and insight. I highly recommend for anyone that is personally experiences a “faith crisis” or that has a family member or other loved one in that situation.

Essential for any leader and member

It would benefit any church organizaiton for leaders (and everyone else) to read and understand this work. I found limited focus on faith crisis in this book. Rather, the author provides an amazing connection of human developmental stages to the development of faith. So actually faith crises are amplified since many of us don't understand these priciples. If we all understood each other's faith journey in this context, I bet we would be enjoying the company of many of our loved ones therein. I find contextualizing my faith journey according to these stages now provides greater peace and is making me feel more comfortable in my faith, even though I can't say I ever really felt like I fit in any wards I have lived in. Thank you for writing this book.

Thought provoking

This is a helpful perspective for both young and older members of the LDS faith. It provides a unique view that is disarming and can help those navigating a faith journey and those seeking to better understand the journey of others (and themselves).
