Solid but overly embellished

I enjoyed this book overall because I never really understood Napoleon's life and legacy. All of the significant details are included, from his origins in Corsica through his marriage to Josephine, his major battles, and his eventual exile. However, for an "hourglass" history, this is more like a two-hourglass history. We are constantly being reminded not only what happened in Napoleon's life, but, with dramatic emphasis, how important he was, how transformative he was, how significant to later European history he was, etc.

Repetitive

I liked this audible and thought the reader was very good. I thought the story itself lacked substance and used so much repetition in its use of words. Also thought much detail of Josephine was lacking.
