Publisher's summary

From David Baldacci - the modern master of the thriller and number-one worldwide best-selling novelist - comes a new hero: a lone Army Special Agent taking on the toughest crimes facing the nation. And Zero Day is where it all begins....

John Puller is a combat veteran and the best military investigator in the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Division. His father was an Army fighting legend, and his brother is serving a life sentence for treason in a federal military prison. Puller has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable drive to find the truth.

Now, Puller is called out on a case in a remote, rural area in West Virginia coal country, far from any military outpost. Someone has stumbled onto a brutal crime scene, a family slaughtered. The local homicide detective, a headstrong woman with personal demons of her own, joins forces with Puller in the investigation. As Puller digs through deception after deception, he realizes that absolutely nothing he's seen in this small town, and no one in it, are what they seem. Facing a potential conspiracy that reaches far beyond the hills of West Virginia, he is one man on the hunt for justice against an overwhelming force.

David Baldacci is one of the world's favorite storytellers. His books are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with over 110 million copies in print. He is also the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across America. Still a resident of his native Virginia, he invites you to visit him at www.DavidBaldacci.com and his foundation at www.WishYouWellFoundation.org, and to look into its program to spread books across America at www.FeedingBodyandMind.com.

Good story, action packed!

What made the experience of listening to Zero Day the most enjoyable?

Good narration, fast paced.. good listening book.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

It kept you wanting to continue to find out how he solves the case. Least interesting is the comparison to Lee Child's "Jack Reacher". Having read Reacher, this feels like a rip off.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

*Spoiler* Sad that Sam died. Some parts are really implausible.. like his backpack with all the stuff you need to defuse a nuke,, and surviving a nuclear blast, hurled 100 feet in the air.. really? Try doing that.. no shattered bones, or crushed skull? really..

Any additional comments?

I wish the other books go on sale. Then I will buy them, or recommend them.

Excellent!

The story was engaging, I never rolled my eyes, and I love the characters. The narrators are my favorite and, as usual, did a great job. Occasionally I would feel the inflections were off, but not enough to distract. Great job!

Nukes 101

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

What to do with a nuke with a ticking timer that's about to go off? The Author recognizes everything in an implosion weapon must proceed perfectly, and if you knock it off balance even a little, most or all of the nuclear yield can be prevented. The flim-flam about the pit escaping through a hole is complete malarky, but Baldacci got the big picture right. Another way to safe the weapon would be the Dracula Method, drive a metal spike into the heart of the pit. The foreign material and distortion to the sphere both prevent supercritical compression by the explosive jacket.

John Puller 1st book

I really like David Baldacci's books. He has interesting characters and John Puller is no exception. I will admit the detail he goes into about a lot of things goes over my head--in and out with a very brief stop. The books are good enough and the characters intriguing enough that it doesn't detract for me. The narrators were great

Good read

David Baldacci never disappoints. Great characters that are colorful, yet real. Fast moving and interesting plot. Makes the characters believable, and ones that you either love or hate. Altogether great read.

Just my opinion

I don't use foul language and don't like to hear it from others. I think there are ways to communicate feelings and thoughts without it no matter the situation so 4/5 stars for the language.

Did Lee Child write this?

If you are a Jack Reacher fan you just might like John Puller, he's a toned-down version of Reacher.
