Publisher's summary

Mike Wingate, abandoned by his father at four and raised in foster care, is finally living the life he always dreamed of - he's happily married with a precocious 8-year-old daughter, and his construction company is about to finish a "green" housing development that will secure a solid future for them all. But then something from his own past, a past he doesn't even remember, comes back to visit terror upon him and his family.

Shady characters begin threatening Mike, and when he reports them, the police seem more interested in Mike's murky past than in protecting him. Now, with Mike, his wife Annabel and daughter Kat suddenly under attack from all sides, Mike turns to Shep, a dangerous man - and Mike's only true friend - from his childhood days in foster care. Together they will do whatever it takes to protect Mike's family against the hidden men behind the terrifying warning, "You're Next."

Critic reviews

"Excellent...keeps Mike (and the reader) on edge, wondering what is happening to him and how far it will escalate. Highly recommended to Hurwitz’s many faithful readers and to fans of Linwood Barclay, Harlen Coben, and Lisa Gardner." --Booklist

"The bad guys are suitably evil and the mystery satisfying, but Hurwitz’s real success is depicting Mike’s hard-won life as a husband, father, and successful businessman. A first-rate thriller!" --Library Journal (starred review)

"Hurwitz masterfully provokes feelings of extreme dread...Shep and Mike fight and sleuth their way through intensifying mayhem until they find the unexpected answer...." --Publishers Weekly

excellent

What did you love best about You're Next?

The gripping suspense kept you on the edge of your seat.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shepard was my favorite character because of his loyalty to his friend and his simplistic way of dealing with life. Though he was a criminal he had a moral code that he stuck to.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to 2 previous performances before. He is a great performer, in fact I went looking for other books that he had narrated.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me tense. Waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Any additional comments?

Makes sitting at work desk bound bare-able. Thank you Gregg Hurwitz and Scott Brick

kept me listening

This story kept me listening just to find out why the main character was being chased and harassed by these individuals. Quite the ending, it seems as though it all wrapped up in the last 10 minutes or so, however......

great ride

What did you love best about You're Next?

It gripped me from the beginning and didn't let go. At times it was almost upsetting, it was so suspenseful. I often listen to books to fall asleep, but this one kept me awake. While the story line was pretty improbable, I didn't really care. What I did care about is that the characters were true and had depth. I think they were all true to themselves and their choices rang true to me. I totally didn't see the resolution coming and I liked that too. Highly recommend this book if you like the thriller genre.

Was surprised. Good listen.

Writing is actually really good and the deliverance of the narrator matches in quality. Give this one a go. You might be surprised as well.

BEST BOOK I'VE LISTENED TO ALL YEAR!!

Outstanding book. It's a great thriller/suspense story which also has the love of a family, friend, and great humor throughout its storyline .

The story grabs you from page one and continues until the last sentence .

I dare you not to like it.

The Narrator is excellent.
Terrific read.

Suspenseful and well narrated.

Intriguing plot with plenty of action. Great listen for the commute. It's not a life changing book but if you're into the Jason Bourne genre than you should enjoy this.

Nail biter

It starts slow, but once it picks up it's hard to quit listening! This would make an excellent movie. Some of the criticism of this book centers on how the story is at times unbelievable. This is true, but I think sometimes a reader needs to be able to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the story. Definitely worth the listen!
