Solid book

Like many suspense thrillers in this Genre the action did seem to lull at certain points ; but overall I really enjoyed this book and the characters.

Kept you wondering why. Wonder who you are. Could not stop listening end til done. Overall a great story

Slow start, good middle and ending

Wish there'd been less moping for the first quarter of the book, but by the middle, I was hooked

Hands-down, the best fiction book I've "read" in a long long time. Good from the first page total last, and read by an expert. Don't miss this one.

Hurwitz added to my fav authors

This book had me from the first words. Of course, Scott Brick is a wonderful narrator and could make any book come alive. Hurwitz's characters are strong and I immediately felt attached to the story. The "stamina" and "loyalty" message of the book, as illustrated through Michael's various relationships and challenges, was refreshing in a book filled with suspense and violence. I would recommend this book.

Slow start

About ⅓ of the book was a pre-story with little more than introducing characters. Almost put it away, but glad I stayed with it.

The best thriller I've read in a long while

I could not stop listening from beginning to the end! awesome storyline they kept you at the edge of your seat and I loved the ending

I gave it a second go and really enjoyed it

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Overall, yes. I'm not sure why I wasn't a huge fan the first time I tried to listen; when I initially downloaded it, I only got halfway through the second chapter. Maybe I was suffering Ray Porter withdrawals. I tried again, however, and was pleasantly surprised! There's a bit of set-up to get through, but once you have all the players in place, the story hooks you. I found myself sitting in the car in my driveway, wanting to hear the final few 'pages' before going inside.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It took a few chapters to really hook me, but once it go going, I was incredibly engaged.

What aspect of Scott Brick’s performance would you have changed?

At first, I wasn't a fan of Brick's narration -- I felt it was too slow (I know, I have an issue). But when I gave this title a second try, I realized his cadence was a huge plus. The writing is languid and descriptive; his slower lilt helps to paint the picture Hurwitz is painting, and, during the action, creates a level of aching intensity.

Great Narration and Suspense

The first 2/3 of this book had me listening every spare moment I could find. During last third, while the suspense remained, the plot became a little absurd. I came away feeling a little let-down by the conclusion. Overall, however, I enjoyed the listen and would recommend the book.
