Publisher's summary

Years ago, Katie Sanford’s husband was convicted of the murder of Jenny Robbins, then died himself in prison. It’s a small town and memories are long, and Katie and Jenny’s husband, Chief of Police Jake Robbins, have had to work at putting the tragedy behind them. But it's all brought up again in the wake of a hurricane which has just wreaked havoc on their quiet Maine town. Since its founding, Wilton has had a quaint tradition of creating a time capsule every 50 years, and the storm unearthed the most recent capsule. As the editor of the local paper, Katie joins Chief Robbins to supervise its opening. Neither of them is prepared for the macabre set of predictions, dating back to months before Jenny’s murder, that they find inside. Someone predicted her death, as well as 11 other tragedies, which are still occurring even long after the death of Katie’s husband.

At last, after all these years, Katie has reason to hope that her husband might not have been guilty of Jenny’s murder after all. But as she and Jake race to stop the next predictions from coming true, they find themselves caught in a terrifying mind game with no rules…and life or death consequences.

In Without Warning, David Rosenfelt has written another tightly plotted thriller that will hold listeners in its grip from the opening page all the way through to the stunning conclusion.

Listen to "Without Warning" without waiting

Very interesting book and premise. I purchased based on a review that I read online here at Audible.
Great characters, suspenseful and I didn't want to go to sleep because I wanted to hear the end of the story.

Not as Good as Rosenfelt's other books

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

MEH. There are better books by the same author. Any of the Andy Carpenter books

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Less sappy dialog between the two main characters. The story was good but was undone by stupid diaglog

What about Jeff Steitzer’s performance did you like?

He voices were good. He could differentiate between men and women

Do you think Without Warning needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

NO. Not a good enough story or characters

Any additional comments?

Try the Andy Carpenter books.

Not as good as Andy Carpenter

Story was just okay, and unfortunately the narrator ruined it for me. His voice and delivery not appropriate for the characters.

I liked it...

David Rosenfeldt stories are fun but this was a bit different. This narrator did a great job on the different voices. He reminds me of a voice on Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Excellent book

I liked the mystery and the development of the characters. It is a story of hate and revenge going back to days in the military. The police chiefs intensify to find out the identity of the killer and why it is happening is well done. I’ve read many books by this author and they are always good

Sloppy -

I don't know if I believe the brilliant David Rosenfelt who writes of Andy, Laurie, and Tara in the Andy Carpenter series actually wrote this.

What starts out as a compelling story with interesting characters just falls apart in the lack of details that show an author is really thinking about how things should fit together. For instance, would a bad guy not alert his partner that the police were on the way if he knew it? Not if you're a bad guy in this story.

Also, parts of this book are just laughable when it comes to what a police chief or FBI agent would do in certain situations. So disappointing--with a little more effort, this could have been a well done novel.

I'll stick with the Andy Carpenter series for this author.

Disappointed

I love all of David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter and K9 books. I don’t know if this was a very early book, but it is long and tedious. And utterly improbable in plot and characterization. Very disappointing.

Not Andy Carpenter quality

I love his Andy Carpenter books, but, man, this was bad. I actually felt sorry for Rosenfelt by the end. This was one of the stupidest books I've ever read. Stayed with it based on the authors past books, but it was pretty rough.

Disappointed in Colorado

I am a huge fan of Mr. Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series so I was disappointed by this really stupid story. The far fetched tale was made only more inane by the reader who had only two voices… that of the lead character and that of someone with bad congestion. I sped the audible up to get it over with as fast as possible. Even Grover Gardner couldn’t have saved this book!

Horrible

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

12 year olds.

What could David Rosenfelt have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It is written with such a simplistic, obvious narrative that I found myself laughing at the main character. Honestly.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Steitzer?

Someone with a younger, more energetic voice. I felt like I was listening to my grandfather which made all the romance stuff totally unrealistic. Aren't the characters in their late thirties or early forties?

What character would you cut from Without Warning?

Jake.

Any additional comments?

It just felt like a story for young readers. It had no complexity and was very predictable. Different narrative tone in the reading and writing would have helped, but the story would still be 2 stars at the most.
