Good story - boring performance
It took me more than half of the book to get used to the mostly monotone voice of the narrator...so much so, I was attempted to stop listening to this book several times. I am glad I didn’t though as it wasa good story

Really the BEST Clancy book!
This story is one of the best in the history of John Clark. Followed his exploits through all subsequent books. This is still by far my most favorite of all. A MUST read. Forget about that Amazon movie, that had no resemblance to this book.

Great Book, mediocre audio
Loved the book. Great story. I didn't really have an issues with the reader's sonorous voice. However I did expierence some audio quality issues. Low sound in some places and in others sounded like I was listening through a blown speaker. Not too bad overall though.

You won’t be disappointed!
Ok so I decided to wait until I finished the jack ryan series to listen to this book and I’m so glad I did. I know this should be the first book according to many however I didn’t know about this book until I listened to the cardinal and that was an oversight. However since I was already rolling I figured I’d listen to this at the end and treat it as a john clark origins story.
If I’m being honest once Clancy passed the Ryan torch I found myself really pushing through the books rather than allowing myself to just get caught up in the story to the point where I didn’t want the book to end. Listening to this I realized how much I missed the depth of EVERYTHING clancy brought.
This book really took you into how JC came to be and how tragedies molded him. I was no doubt rooting for him every step of the way from start to finish. The amount of depth Clancy brings to all of his characters allows you to really visualize and even feel the moments he created. I could go on and on but I’ll leave it at this. It doesn’t matter if you listen to this book chronologically as it relates to the story, when it was written or at the end of the series….. just make sure you include this as part of you listen to the JR series or even as a stand alone!

Classic Clancy
No one weaves multiple storylines and subplots together like Tom Clancy. I've read this multiple times but this was my first time hearing on audio. An excellent treating of one of my favorite novels.

Don't Watch the Movie
The movie was a total disgrace to this book. The only thing they kept from this amazing book was the characters' names. That's it. The stories are nothing alike.

John Clark beginning
