Jack Reacher walks alone. No job, no ID, no last known address. But he never turns down a plea for help.
Now a woman tracks him down. A woman serving at the very heart of US power. A woman who needs Reacher's assistance in her new job. Her job? Protecting the Vice-President of the United States.

Fanatical Endurance Athlete, who listens to a lot of books while training.
You never think that personal protection could be so complex and challenging. Lee Childs, through Jack Reacher, looks at protecting the vice president(Probably why they call it fiction). Once you get past the nearly, laughable concept that a guy off the street can be used as a security consultant, the plot unfolds into a solid story where Jack Reacher lives in the echo of his brother, looking at revenge and love.
Solid and enjoyable story and the audible presentation is brilliant.
"Listen to the details ... perfection in words"
Lee Child is a master story teller and Reacher is the means by which we see this.
The story comes across slowly, it's never forced into action though you are aware that simplicity has retreated and the strands of something very complicated are emerging. Lee Child's skill for observation is the glue that binds thought and action together. It's the small details that bring colour and understanding of his characters into a unity. This book is excellent.
All this together with the voice of Jeff Harding makes for compelling listening.
"Jeff Harding is Reacher!"
I have loved all recordings with J H as narrator simply because he is also an actor who creates a splendid mind image of the story.
"Uninteresting, far fetched story"
Probably my least favourite Reacher story. Not really fast moving, The female secret service character was very annoying. Doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the stories.
"A Simply Brilliant Reacher Novel"
I love Jeff Harding's narration; I love the flawed, yet individually perfect character of Reacher; and I love the diversity of these situations that Lee Child weaves into a highly credible story.
Previous reviewers have been critical about Reacher's involvement with his brother's ex, but I consider it a very real world, typical, likely turn of events. The Reacher character is not holy, moral or chaste. He's never been portrayed in that way; he could never have survived these various situations if he were!
He has his own code of justice and morality. We enjoy viewing it through his eyes, living through his thought processes. What do I like best about him? "Reacher said nothing." He's quite a wise man…
Enjoy this, you'll learn a lot about him and his brother Joe.
"Wonderfully implausible nonsense"
Our hero's absolute commitment to the cause and this story's showcasing of his knowledge and background
Yes, because if you're reading the Reacher series, why would you miss one out, even though this isn't the best I've listened to so far
Harding has a very good voice for narration and tempo
"Learning more about Jack Reacher!"
Meeting his dead brother's ex-girlfriend/lover and forced to talk about him, Reacher develops enormously as a credible character in this book.
"Brilliant and compulsive"
Recent convert to Jack Reacher novels ...ignore the film with Tom Cruise.
Think Raymond Chandler on steroids. Well thought out story with twist and turns as new evidence comes to light. ...not managed to guess the outcome yet of any of the stories.
Like the intricacies and characterisations, very well voiced by Jeff Harding, now my preferred reader.
I now know a lot about weaponry and ways of killing people!
"Dragged a little"
Def not one of the best. Unusually this book didn't have the punch some of the other books are over flowing with. It had its good bits but only some and the chapters felt too long for me. The female love interest although every man would have probably done the same thing it was a little morally disappointing coming from 'the hero' we all can't be.
a really great roller coaster ride couldn't stop listening! Jack in great form what next? can't wait
"Jeff Harding is brilliant"
I am not sure I would have enjoyed this story as a printed book, but I loved it as an audible. I want to introduce a law, only Jeff Harding may read Reacher. He is just perfect. The actual story is a little dull and procedural, but Harding brought it alive. I now have a beautifully decorated room, as listening to this kept me company, kept me happy, stopped me from getting impatient and rushing. Thank you Lee Child and Jeff Harding.
