Few writers have explored the human dark side with as much insight and power - and in Winter Prey, his shattering New York Times best-seller, Sandford tells his most ice-blooded tale of all. Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport has tracked killers in cities across America. But even he may be unprepared to face the savage murderer hunting human prey in the Wisconsin woods this winter.

Good books just make me smile!
Sure, I enjoy a re-listen to the entire Prey series, you pick up little things you may have missed or look forward to the scenes & dialog that you remember. Either way, while waiting for the NEXT prey novel I enjoy a revisit to Minneapolis any time.
Winter Prey has a good plot line of its own to keep your interest, but this is the one where Lucas meets Weather. It adds to his back story and gives you more insight to Lucas' personal life.
Many ... he is a wonderful narrator, and for me ... he IS Lucas Davenport. He delivers Lucas' lines exactly how I expect them to be spoken.
Lucas gets shot, in the throat ... he can't breathe ... can Weather step in, in time ...
Everyone should add the Prey series to their wish lists.
I'd skipped this one because it wasn't out on audible. I had the intention of going back latter and getting a kindle copy. Then it popped up last week and I grabbed it up. I'm so glad it came through on audible before I bought the kindle copy. This was really good. Lots of tension. Great story.
Richard Ferrone does a really good job narrating the series. I'm glad it looks like he's doing the entire series.
There are still some holes in front of me in this series and hopefully they'll fill in before I get to them.
8 It is a well written story, that have you guessing untill the end.
Finding out who the killer was, & why he wanted to kill a particular person
Dr Weather Karkeenan
No. But it made me gasp a couple of times
Sloan's voice is not always the same, but the entire story is good and engaging. Good for going down the highway
If I'm not reading, I'm listening.
I love Mr. Ferrone's performance.
I love Weather
I've only heard him as the narrator of this series and so far, I can't imagine another narrator.
I found myself getting emotional when Weather described her parents and when the yellow haired girl ... (don't want to spoil it!)
Great. Can't wait for the next one.
Say something about yourself!
I enjoyed the characters however it wasn't quite what i was expecting. I was kind of put off by the fact that the bad guy is a pedophile. If it wasn't for that aspect I would have really enjoyed the book, other than that it was good.
I did feel the ending was a bit predictable, but I still enjoyed it.
Very good narrator who was easy to listen too and keep my attention.
This is the first John Sandford book that I have ever listened to or read and was pleased with it. I will probably download more of his books.
Devoted audible mystery user. Been using since 2001 - that's a bunch of books. I've enjoyed every one I purchased through my membership.
Enjoyed the story. Have enjoyed this series for years. Good to go to early episode to see how Weather comes into the continuing storyline of the series.
Suspenseful. Terrific story. Wonderful characters. Excellent performance. The story is a bit dark.. Held me..
I am a college professor and professional actor, director and playwright. The peformance of the book is as important to me as the writing.
Just when I started to wonder if Sandford could keep it up in his "Prey" series, he hits the ball out of the park with another one. In Winter Prey, Lucas finally falls in love and the woman is his equal in intelligence, courage and heart. The killer is horrifyingly bad, in the way we love them to be. Highly intelligent, completely corruptible, and psychologically skewed. This story has sex ring stuff, child abuse, good old fashioned romance, a suspicious priest and our hero get mortally wounded......no spoilers beyond this.
And I can't say enough about the narrator, Richard Ferrone- his voice is amazing and his interpretation and nuanced characters are compelling, seductive, scary, wistful, dramatic.---he has it all.
Tell us about yourself! Lifelong reader and passionate pursuer of knowledge. I love Audible because I never have to stop reading.
I have read much of John Sandford, and Lucas Davenport, but there is something about listening to the story that makes it much more vivid. I love Lucas, and Weather, and this was one of my favorite Prey books. No question that the earlier books are more vicious than the later titles in the series.
