Few writers have explored the human dark side with as much insight and power - and in Winter Prey, his shattering New York Times best-seller, Sandford tells his most ice-blooded tale of all. Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport has tracked killers in cities across America. But even he may be unprepared to face the savage murderer hunting human prey in the Wisconsin woods this winter.

Good books just make me smile!
Sure, I enjoy a re-listen to the entire Prey series, you pick up little things you may have missed or look forward to the scenes & dialog that you remember. Either way, while waiting for the NEXT prey novel I enjoy a revisit to Minneapolis any time.
Winter Prey has a good plot line of its own to keep your interest, but this is the one where Lucas meets Weather. It adds to his back story and gives you more insight to Lucas' personal life.
Many ... he is a wonderful narrator, and for me ... he IS Lucas Davenport. He delivers Lucas' lines exactly how I expect them to be spoken.
Lucas gets shot, in the throat ... he can't breathe ... can Weather step in, in time ...
Everyone should add the Prey series to their wish lists.
I'd skipped this one because it wasn't out on audible. I had the intention of going back latter and getting a kindle copy. Then it popped up last week and I grabbed it up. I'm so glad it came through on audible before I bought the kindle copy. This was really good. Lots of tension. Great story.
Richard Ferrone does a really good job narrating the series. I'm glad it looks like he's doing the entire series.
There are still some holes in front of me in this series and hopefully they'll fill in before I get to them.
Say something about yourself!
I enjoyed the characters however it wasn't quite what i was expecting. I was kind of put off by the fact that the bad guy is a pedophile. If it wasn't for that aspect I would have really enjoyed the book, other than that it was good.
If I'm not reading, I'm listening.
I love Mr. Ferrone's performance.
I love Weather
I've only heard him as the narrator of this series and so far, I can't imagine another narrator.
I found myself getting emotional when Weather described her parents and when the yellow haired girl ... (don't want to spoil it!)
Great. Can't wait for the next one.
I listen to and have recently started to write reviews. I've found the reviews have helped me to select books.
Yes, I'm sure that I well. There are things that I do miss the first time through when I read any book. This book was also when Weather and Lucas meet. Rereading serial books is fun because once again I can see how the series becomes more complete. The character's meet up again and can share new and chilling adventures. You can't miss when you read a Prey novel.
Yes, there were different men who could have been responsible for wanting to kill to preserve his first murder. However, when you continue to read, you learn that sometimes it's very difficult indeed to hide from your crimes. I tried to figure who had to be killed next to keep his killing's hidden. Truth may be difficult but a person tends to forget what lie he used to cover up the previous one.
Richard Ferrone's performance's have been very good throughout the series. The voices stay the same, making it easier to distinguish the former character's, making it less difficult to learn a new voice. Ferrone has honed his skills when his narration emotes various feelings.
Yes, but I did take 2 days.
I've enjoyed Sandford's Prey series. I also noticed that he has 2 other series. Because I've enjoyed the Prey series, I will read the other's. The character development has been great. The new character's that he introduces to be the villain in each of his books needs a new character development, which Sandford does well. Keeping the same narrator for this series is a plus. I find that with each book that I listen to, I do not tire how Sandford writes.
I started this series in order, but skipped Book Two (Shadow Prey I think?) because of some reviews and the plot summary. This is my favorite of the series so far. However, if I could do it again, I would skip the next book, Night Prey. This book is the first time you aren't introduced to the identity of the killer up front. Even though I figured it out pretty early on, I wasn't positive, and it was great to have it confirmed toward the end. I really hope he goes back to the format of not identifying the killer in future books.
It was awesome, the description of Minnesota winter woa!!! Excellent story, jejeje excellent end for the antagonist.
Lucas, he gives to Lucas that "macho" thing ...nice
8 It is a well written story, that have you guessing untill the end.
Finding out who the killer was, & why he wanted to kill a particular person
Dr Weather Karkeenan
No. But it made me gasp a couple of times
Sloan's voice is not always the same, but the entire story is good and engaging. Good for going down the highway
I READ WINTER PREY YEARS AGO - THE AUDIBLE VERSION IS EXCELLENT. ALL OF SANFORD'S DELIGHTFULLY COLORFUL VERBIAGE SHINES THROUGH
ALL OF SANFORD'S PREY SERIES ARE EXCELLENT CHOICES. EACH BOOK IN THE SERIES IS RELEVANT TO ALL THE OTHERS AND TRUE TO THE "PREY" ROOTS.
LISTEN-ABILITY IS GOOD, BUT THE FALSETTO SUCKS. WHY? BECAUSE ALL FALSETTO SUCKS! NOT JUST FERRONE'S FALSETTO. ALL FALSETTO SUCKS.
I LOVED ALL THE MACHO SHOOT-EM-UP STUFF, ESPECIALLY THE "FACE OFF" IN THE WOODS AS DESCRIBED IN THE FINAL MOMENTS OF THE STORY!
A GREAT LISTEN.
I don't I could recommend. I don't understand why the "F---" word needs to be used! It doesn't add a thing to the story. I think it loses more readers than it gains. Authors get with it!!
It was an interesting story.
Easy to understand
Except for the profanity it was great.
Why do writers feel the need to use profanity when the story or movie would tell the same plot without using it!!
