Publisher's summary

Few writers have explored the human dark side with as much insight and power - and in Winter Prey, his shattering New York Times best-seller, Sandford tells his most ice-blooded tale of all. Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport has tracked killers in cities across America. But even he may be unprepared to face the savage murderer hunting human prey in the Wisconsin woods this winter.

Prey Series

Everyone I’ve spoken too that have read the John Sanford Prey series of books has told me they are fabulous. Now that I’m into them, I confirm that to be true.
Being from Minnesota and in law enforcement for over thirty years makes them extra special for me.
I’m familiar with the locations and can relate to Lucas Davenport.
Well done Mr. Sanford ! I’ll read/listen to them all. Better late than never. Lol

All the books in the Prey series are great!

John Stanford is a fantastic author who catches the thought process of his characters as well as telling an amazing story. For the people complaining about the police brutality in the book, I would ask if you missed the part about the people being brutalized were people producing child pornography, involved in a child sex ring and serial killers? Enjoy the book and stop reading into it, sometimes bad people need their ass beat, in novels and in life. it’s a great book.

Another great book

This was another great read. The book came to life for me with the narration. I had several guesses of who the Ice Man was, but was surprised at the reveal.

Gritty and suspenseful.

This is one of my favorite Prey stories with the first appearance of Weather. The narrator is incredibly good. And the story is suspenseful and engrossing.

I just really enjoy this series

I really enjoyed this book. It started with a bang in both the description of a brutal murder and brutal weather. Sandford did a great job of using the weather as its own character in this book. Lucas is is out of his element in this book. He is a very small town with rumors and information flowing around him and he can’t control the situation with the cops, witnesses and the press the way he normally does.

I had two main issues with this book. One is that I didn’t really feel like the murderer was on par with Lucas. Maybe he was but I wasn’t feeling like that which is going to make my other issue seem contradictory. This felt more like a Virgil Flowers case than a Lucas Davenport case. I could visualize Virgil tearing up that little village with his manipulations more than Lucas.

Weather – not sure what I think about Weather. I have issues not with her but with the author tending to put Lucas’ romantic interest in the middle of everything resulting in the same old trope book after book. I did like her character and she seems to fit with Lucas as in she is strong and independent, and he seems to like that in his romantic partners.

I never have any issues with the narrator. Wonderful as always.

Oh Well

I did struggle to finish this. Though there were parts of it that I couldn't wait to get through there were more parts of it that I kept thinking what is the point this is been going over and over and over so. But Sanford is a good writer and never really disappoints.
