Publisher's summary

Welcome to the Custer Hill Club, a men's club, set in a luxurious hunting lodge, whose members include America's powerful business leaders, military men, and government officials. The club is a place to relax with old friends, but one fall weekend, the club's Executive Board gathers to talk about 9/11 and finalize a retaliation plan, known by a code name: Wild Fire.

That weekend, a member of the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force is found dead. It's up to Detective John Corey and his wife, FBI Agent Kate Mayfield, to unravel a terrifying plot that starts with the Custer Hill Club and ends with American cities locked in the crosshairs of a nuclear device. Corey and Mayfield are the only ones who can prevent global chaos from being unleashed.

Critic reviews

"The novel presents a what-if scenario that's so plausible we have to remind ourselves that DeMille is making the whole thing up." (Booklist)
"This tour de force of relentless narrative power neither stops nor slows for twists or turns, but charges straight ahead in the face of danger." (Publishers Weekly)

Great story. Couldn’t stop listening

Such a complex story and so interesting. Did start to get tired of the constant sarcasm and humor.

Great fun!

Nelson deMille and Scott Brick together again - What a delicious treat - The only requirement is for the listener to sit back and enjoy! A slightly far-fetched conspiracy to be sure, but this is, after all, entertainment, and John Corey, as created by the author and portrayed by Scott Brick, never ceases to entertain.

A DeMille-Brick loser

Having listened to and enjoyed the first two Corey and Kate books, I was not happy with this one. The humor seemed corney and the reader reinforced this to the point where I had a hard time listening to him.

Obviously, most of the prior reviewers do not agree with this, but I'm sorry I spent a credit on this book and Scott Brick is off of my reader list.

A great book, I love John Corey’s humor.

The Scott Brick and Nelson DeMille interview at the end is very interesting as well. It adds background that was needed, at least for me. Thanks for another great book, it was a great diversion from real life.

Love DeMille

Nelson DeMille does great job with modern day era thrillers. FBI, CIA ,Homeland Security.
John Corey ex NYPD on assignment with FBI , is a NYC smart ass you love and sometimes want to punch . But in the end he wins.... what I want !

Good, but

No wonder it is as long as it is, author tends to be excessively verbose in several areas. Otherwise a good story, ending a little weak

John Cory comes alive with the reading by Scott Brick. DeMille has done a masterful job of following up on has storylines. Kuhiefrank!!
