Publisher's summary

Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels is having a bad week. Her live-in boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, chronic insomnia has caused her to max out her credit cards with late-night home shopping purchases, and a frightening killer who calls himself "The Gingerbread Man" is dumping mutilated bodies in her district.

While avoiding the FBI and its moronic profiling computer, joining a dating service, mixing it up with street thugs, and parrying the advances of an uncouth PI, Jack and her binge-eating partner, Herb, must catch the maniac before he kills again...and Jack is next on his murder list.

Whiskey Sour is the first book in the bestselling Jack Daniels series, full of laugh-out-loud humor and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Crack another case with Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels.

Critic reviews

Dual voices add considerable interest to this debut novel....The production's conversations sound more like those of a radio play than a reading, and one gets the feeling that both actors are having fun. This is a fine series opener." ( AudioFile)

GOOD STORY LINE

DICK HILLS NARRATION MAKES THE BOOK. SUSIE BRECK JUST DOESNT FIT FOR JAC DANIELS VOICE. MISPRONOUNCED TOO MANY WORDS. TOO FORCED.

A thriller with a giggle on the side

I'm sure that for some readers this will be a great addition to their collection of sick serial killers. Me, not so much. I found it hard to get through, it wasn't just the gore or the perverted things the killer does. Or the Laurel and Hardy FBI team, not even the fat Elbert partner. It was everything, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I wasn't in the right state of mind. But once I had a couple of glasses of wine I pushed through, and no I won't do it again. Not for me.

A Refreshing Take on Murder Mysteries

Would you consider the audio edition of Whiskey Sour to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version but I'm certain the audio is better. Konrath writes his novels with the audio book in mind. His characters are so much better when brought to life. He is the only novelist I have listened to that uses effects with the voices. I also like that multiple voices read in the same chapter when having a conversation, this is so unique compared to all other audio books I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

In the first novel, I enjoyed listening to the killer....he was quite psychotic!

Which character – as performed by Susie Breck and Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I enjoy Jack but also Harry. All the characters are great! Susie and Dick are the best!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How can you beat the tagline already?

Any additional comments?

I found this series by accident and I'm so glad I did. I love listening to murder mysteries but lately they have all been so similar and bland. The Jack Daniels series is refreshing and its renewed my love of the genre. I'll be bummed when I finish them all.

Good mystery

The narration on this is good, although I'm not a fan of Dick Hill, the main character was very good. The mystery was solid, although the ending could have been better done. I'll read more in this series!

Jack is fantastic!

Where does Whiskey Sour rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a fantastic AUDIObook, because there are two narrators, a male who narrates all of the male roles and a female who narrates all of the female roles. Both narrators do a fantastic job of using different voices for each character, so it makes the story come alive. It is like watching a movie without a picture!

Any additional comments?

Be aware that this audiobook contains graphic descriptions of the crime, both during the commission of said crimes, and the scene. There is also some "rough" language - watch out for those f-bombs! You might not want to listen to this within earshot of children or the easily offended.
