Publisher's summary

From Atlanta's wealthiest suburbs to its stark inner-city housing projects, a killer has crossed the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries, too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael's lover before she became his enemy. But unbeknownst to both of them, another player has entered the game: a loser ex-con who has stumbled upon the killer's trail in the most coincidental of ways and who may be the key to breaking the case wide open.

In this gritty, gripping firecracker of a novel, the author of the best-selling Grant County, Georgia, series breaks thrilling new ground, weaving together the threads of a complex, multilayered story with the skill of a master craftsman. Packed with body-bending switchbacks, searing psychological suspense and human emotions, Triptych ratchets up the tension one revelation at a time as it races to a shattering and unforgettable climax.

Didn't want this book to end

I loved this book! The story, the characters.....everything. I finished Triptych on my way home from work at 2AM and stayed up long enough to buy and download the next book in the series so I can listen to a little before I sleep. I can't wait to find out what Will Trent and Angie Polaski are up to in the next book. I'm not from the south but I found the reader's accent to be just fine!

Loved the story line, the characters, and most importantly, the narrator, Michael Kramer. Love his voice.

Triptych

Where does Triptych rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks in the top 10 for sure - in both story quality and narration.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that Karin Slaughter can keep me on the edge of my seat and that her storylines haven't become predictable. I find myself rolling my eyes at some of the crime/suspense books that I've read recently because they are so obvious and not particularly clever.

What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?

I loved it. His narration was wonderful.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely but it was a bit too long to be able to listen to in one sitting. I was always very anxious to get back to it whenever I took breaks.

Any additional comments?

I would have loved for Michael Kramer to narrate the next book in the series but, unfortunately, he isn't listed as a narrator for any of the future Will Trent books. I'll be skipping Fractured on Audible because of my personal issues with the narrator (Phil Gigante) and will resume listening again with the third book.

What a listen!!

All I can say is wow .The characters are flawed, the writing is dark, the details intense and once you start listening you can't stop. If detective, thrillers are you genre, you will be enthralled!

A good book

Not my favorite by Karin but still good. It takes awhile to get going but it’s worth it in the end.

Suspenseful Trip!

Triptych is my first Karin Slaughter book, and I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks to my Goodreads friends for recommending this well-known author in the thriller-suspense genre. I had heard of her but didn’t know what I was missing. Triptych is the first in the Will Trent ten book series, so there is much more goodness to come.

The setting is Atlanta, where a string of grisly murders have occurred, and Will Trent, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Specialist, is called in to assist the Atlanta police. Fair warning to potential readers; this is a very dark and disturbing crime novel with a well-developed plot and compelling characters. I am eager to see how the Will Trent character will grow over the next nine books.

I purchased and started reading the first couple of pages of the next installment, Fractured, when I realized that I needed to read the six-book Grant County series first, and I will be reading Blindsighted next. {sigh}

I listened to this book via audiobook on Audible. The narration was by Michael Kramer, who did an acceptable job. I had trouble getting used to him at first, but he grew on me. I gave this book four stars and am looking forward to reading more of the author’s books.
