Publisher's Summary

From Atlanta's wealthiest suburbs to its stark inner-city housing projects, a killer has crossed the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries, too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael's lover before she became his enemy. But unbeknownst to both of them, another player has entered the game: a loser ex-con who has stumbled upon the killer's trail in the most coincidental of ways and who may be the key to breaking the case wide open.

In this gritty, gripping firecracker of a novel, the author of the best-selling Grant County, Georgia, series breaks thrilling new ground, weaving together the threads of a complex, multilayered story with the skill of a master craftsman. Packed with body-bending switchbacks, searing psychological suspense and human emotions, Triptych ratchets up the tension one revelation at a time as it races to a shattering and unforgettable climax.

    Any additional comments?

This audiobook was AAAAHHHMMAAAZZZZINNNGGG!! I couldn't stop listening! I am getting my two monthly credits in a little over a week and I'm actually buying the second one (Fractured) because I can't wait that long! I 'read' this book in under a week, and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If the rest of this series is even half as good as this first book, I'll be hooked on these for a while. You will not regret this book!!!

"My first Slaughter book -- I'm hooked!"

The book started out strong, but predictably for me: interesting start, good narration, but nothing too surprising. Then, the first chapter ends, my perspective is wrenched in a new direction, and I'm paying attention! Slaughter has a true gift for storytelling. The twists in the story and in her characters kept me awake into the night listening. I think I may have found a new, favorite author!

    "Excellent read!"

I am from the south and have to disagree with some of the previous reviews. I got so caught up in this story that I never even noticed the accent. I had read one other book of Slaughter's, enjoyed it and thought I would give this one a try. Based on how much I enjoyed this one I will be sure to listen to more work from this author.

    "Fantastic Writing"

First...I agree. The accents are bad (another southerner weighs in), but not enough to turn me off of the book. This author really gets into the minds of all of her characters, creating (with one exception), real people. The story is nuanced and well written. A good reason to get up and drive 50 min to work every day.

    "Karin Slaughter does it again!"

Well written with more twists and turns than Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Ms. Slaughter is great with character development and interweaving their stories. One of the best suspense, thriller novelists I have ever read.

You would think that after listening for soo many hours the ending would cover what happen to John Shelley. Disappointed.

"Revenge for the sake of revenge"

This is a wonderful book and Karin Slaughter is a wonderful author. Now, with that out of the way, let me talk about the characters. This is my second book featuring Will and Angie whose 25-year love affair is both aggravating and truly moving. While they both grow and mature, it is hard to watch them take two steps forward and one step back. But they are detectives of the first order and a marvel to behold as they add and eliminate clues throughout the story, with the reader constantly wondering which of them will get to the evil-doer first.

Then, there is Jonathan and his sister, Joyce, both very good people to whom very bad things have happened. Their lives have been completely disrupted by the evil acts of others but, are they beyond repair?

And we cannot forget about the homicide detective. Michael is really the cog at the center of this wheel. He claims he wants to solve the mystery of the murdered little girls. Does he want the glory that will rain down on him if he manages to bring his suspect to justice? Or, does he have other, more personal, reasons for pursuing this suspect?

Karin Slaughter did something here that no other author has managed to do for a long, long time. She had me completely bumfuzzled from the very beginning and just when I thought I knew how the story was going to end, the author took an abrupt U-turn that left me hanging.

    It was wonderful!

While I ultimately figured out who the real villain was, I had to wait until almost the end to ascertain his motives and discover who else was involved. But, there were a couple, "And then what happened?" and two "Why did (s)he do that?" left over at the very end that were never answered but balanced against the entirety of the book, the book wins.
