    "Good story, TERRIBLE narration."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Good plot, compelling characters. Had it not been for these two things, I would have stopped listening after the first paragraph. The narrator seemed completely amaturish, pausing in the wrong places, inflection displaced throughout the entire reading. I felt like I was listening to my 10 year-old nephew read. I truly wish I had just purchased this one in print.

What did you like best about this story?

Really good plot and decent twists and story development. A little predictable and some of the characters were overdone.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jonathan Marosz’s performances?

NO, It was terrible all the way through. I will avoid his performances.

Was Total Control worth the listening time?

    I suppose.

"Not up to Baldacci's Usual Quality"
What would have made Total Control better?

Fewer characters, less ridiculous premise and plot twists, better narrator

Has Total Control turned you off from other books in this genre?

No - but, I'll be wary of buying more by Baldacci who has always been a favorite author of mine!

How could the performance have been better?

More inflection in the narrator's voice. It sounds as if he is reading a news report and drones on and on.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Definitely disappointed in this book and will attempt to return it, but I may have waited too long after purchasing it. Saved it for a vacation trip across the country before listening to it - big mistake!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend all Baldacci books but not with this narrator. The monotone is killing the story!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Using someone with no inflections in his voice

    "A disappointing Baldacci Book"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was not time well spent. I had to listen to the entire first segment for it to even become interesting.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect was what was the real reason for the plane crash; who did and why. The least interesting was Sydney's antagonists.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jonathan Marosz’s performances?

NO! It was one dimensional and uninspiring. Very wooden delivery.

Could you see Total Control being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really - well, maybe made for TV movie.

    Any additional comments?

Baldacci has never disappointed until now. Granted, this was a a very outdated book. Technology described was state of the art in its day, but quite anachronistic today.

Not sure how to answer this...

Has Total Control turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, and I have enjoyed other Baldacci books. This one just never connected for me.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    Performance was fine

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Looking at the time left, wondering if it would get any better.

I enjoy mysteries, science fiction, Stephen King, and some fantasy novels. Now and again I like a biography and a bit of history. No romance!

"More twists and turns than a country road!"
Where does Total Control rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would put Total Control in the top twenty audiobooks that I have listened to at this point. The author is one of my favorites and the story is exciting and well thought out.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Total Control?

There are many, but one that I can mention without spoiling the story for others is the moment when you begin to realize that one of the characters in the story is not who you have been led to believe they are. The reveal is very well done. The character's loyalty and their alliance is a nice twist.

What about Jonathan Marosz’s performance did you like?

There is a lot of action in this book and Jonathan Marosz is able to convey that with his reading. You feel like you are there rather than like someone is retelling it. He captures the excitement, suspense, emotion, and energy of what would be big action sequences if this were a film.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What lengths would you go to in order to secure a fortune and how many people would you consider expendable?

    Any additional comments?

There is a character in this book who is entirely too self-sufficient, considering the description of their life prior to events in this story. While I enjoyed the action and the events in the story, I found it hard to believe that this particular character was able to do the things that he/she did during the course of the book. It made the story less entertaining once I realized that the author was going to allow this character to be so very kick-ass in spite of his/her background. It just didn't fit well with the events. Something in the character's background to make this possible for the read would have been nice, but it is still a very entertaining read.

"Offer McLarty & Cassidy Whatever They Want"
Would you consider the audio edition of Total Control to be better than the print version?

This was a GREAT story but would have been MUCH better read by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy. I love Baldacci's stories but they really come to life with McLarty and Cassidy. I was Not at all impressed with Jonathan Marosz.

What other book might you compare Total Control to and why?

    I really can't say

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    No

I love audio and ebooks but only give them a 5 if they hold my attention. An avereage story gets a 3 . Thrillers & Crime are my favorites.

    "Highly Enjoyable"

I am a big fan of David Baldacci. This book was solid as well. It starts out with a husband, Jason Archer, being killed in a plane crash that kills over 200 people. His death is reported to his wife Sydney in the middle of an intense business meeting.

Shortly after, she finds out her husband is a suspect in the plane crash to hide the fact that he was not actually on the plane and he is also suspected of committing fraud and selling corpoarte secrets.

The following story focuses on how Sydney and an FBI agent prove Jason's innocence and track down the real guilty parties. The story is pretty fast paced. Some of it is a bit over the top but definitely a worthwhile listen.

    "THIS NARRATOR IS TERRIBLE!!"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    Nobody

What was most disappointing about David Baldacci’s story?

The story has potential, but I couldn't finish the story because the performance was bad

What didn’t you like about Jonathan Marosz’s performance?

The story is told in a manner as if the narrator is a person reading you a story and not as if the narrator himself is the main character and your going thru his life with him. Whats even worse is narrator is constantly emphasizing words at the beginning of each sentence which is annoying and painful to listen to.

What character would you cut from Total Control?

    Jonathan Marosz the narrator

    Any additional comments?

I never review items, but this book compelled me to do so. Waste of money do not buy, wish I had mine back.
