So so

This is a collection of shadow stories that Christie wrote before she wrote her classics. They are the pre stories from which the great stories came. Not bad
Great to hear Hugh Fraser, smooth voice, LOVE

Did not enjoy listening to Christopher Lee.

The stories narrated by the harsh deep voice of Christopher Lee were not enjoyable. I just did not care for his voice. There are only a few short stories narrated by Hugh Fraser. Overall, a disappointing listen. These short stories by Christie are just not that good. The only short story I liked was the one that had Poirot in it. The other stories are stand alone, some with paranormal elements that are stupid.

Hugh Fraser

Hugh Fraser does a great job of narrating! I like him best, in all the Agatha Christie novels!

Nice to hear Christopher Lee

Lee does an excellent job with his share of the stories and I like to hear some of the great voices reading, Heston's performance of Hemingway is phenomenal. As for these stories, I really like Witness and Mr. Eastwood's Adventure. The others are good but more of the typical Christie "formula" and these two stand out. Actually I always thought Witness was a novel and not a short so that surprised me. I always enjoy Poirot but maybe he's more fun in the novels.

Christopher Lee is bewitching!! Breathtaking!

Hearing Christopher Lee narrate the first handful of stories was fascinating! It almost felt like listening to the work of a different author. I hung on to every word.

I love Hugh Fraser. But Lee brings an entirely different experience. Whereas Fraser is masterful, gifted, and indispensable - Christopher Lee elevates his narrations to an art. He has a knack for isolating and emphasizing a particular word or phrase to let it hang just momentarily, and viscerally, harrowing in the air. "Agatha Christie" becomes much darker, more chilling, more unfathomable in his hands.

Where Fraser has an astounding breadth of work under his belt, all with unfaltering masterful delivery, Christopher Lee mines each word tactilely, presenting each as a hefty, extracted gem, from somewhere dark and sinister, and cold. Thrilling, and fascinating!

There are many times when Christie's plot twists come off as too outlandish and unrealistic. Fraser brings dignity to these moments by salving over them smoothly. But Christopher Lee delves into these seemingly ridiculous plot twists with all of his resources, meeting them headlong, and seems to find in them and draw out something genuinely uncanny; mysterious.

In hearing Lee narrate, it almost feels like hearing, fleshed out, the author's own particular fascinations, which she felt compelled to set up and explore within her vast and varied contrivances.
