Publisher's summary

In her stunning 200th novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts proves why no one is better when it comes to flawlessly fusing high-stakes suspense with red-hot romance" (Booklist, starred review).

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive.

Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance security systems designer, her own protection is supplemented by a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the quickest way to get attention in a tiny southern town.

The mystery of Abigail Lowery and her sharp mind, secretive nature and unromantic viewpoint intrigues local police chief Brooks Gleason, on both a personal and professional level. And while he suspects that Abigail needs protection from something, Gleason is accustomed to two-bit troublemakers, not the powerful and dangerous men who are about to have him in their sights.

And Abigail Lowery, who has built a life based on security and self-control, is at risk of losing both.

Weak Climax

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Most, if not all of JD Robb/Nora Robert's books are good.

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed in the climax (or what I thought to be the climax. I feel it was rushed and not enough detail was presented. Throughout the book the main character talked about going to court, and in a couple of chapters, the villains were featured. I feel the villains could of had more of a story line at the end and the court battle a bit longer with some drama. Compared to the pace of the rest of the book, it just seems this chapter of the main characters lives were worth more than an hour and a half. Other than that, I enjoyed it.

Another great book!

Another great book By Nora Roberts! Ms Roberts always delivers a spell binding story. In Witness 16 year old Elizabeth is a witness to a double murder, her journey after is incredible. I also love the narrator, she does an excellent job. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Audible 20 review.

One of her better books

I enjoy Nora Roberts' books, and I think this is one of her better stories. You almost get two stories in one book because of the prologue, but it all weaves together very well.

I do admit I skip the sexual encounters - not my cup of tea. The other thing that bothers me is the pretty constant cussing - I can't skip over that since I don't know when it's coming.

The reader was very good. I could keep all of the characters straight, which sometimes isn't so easy with other readers.

The Witness

The story was very good, but..
I hadn't read any of Nora Roberts books in ab very long time. I don't remember her using vulgar language and sexual situations like there were in this novel. Maybe its because that sort of thing sells these days. I won't be purchasing any of them unless it's her earlier books.

The Witness will not need witness protection

What made the experience of listening to The Witness the most enjoyable?

A strong woman and a strong man

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, I figured the Chief would blow it in the beginning but his understanding was outstanding.

Any additional comments?

Definitely felt an affinity to the TV show BONES. I would laugh outloud many times. Best Nora Roberts books to date.

Great characters, enjoyable story

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

Julia Whelan did a marvelous job of performing all of the characters. I absolutely loved the way she portrayed Abigail. I enjoyied the book more because of her ability to add such perfect inflections and mannerisms to the character that I would have missed out on had I been reading rather than listening to the book.

Any additional comments?

Often in books, characters who are supposed to be intelligent do obviously stupid things just so the plot can progress, I really appreciated that the author didn't find that necessary in this book.

Another winner by Nora Roberts

What made the experience of listening to The Witness the most enjoyable?

This was my first audible book. I listened to sample before choosing this one and personally I recommend doing that as some voices were not ones I thought I would like to listen to for several hours. The narrator held my attention to the story and changes in characters were easy to identify.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I had to force myself to quit at the end of a chapter. It wasn't possible to stop midway through one, difficult to stop at a chapter end.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

N/A

Any additional comments?

It's definitely a novel but I loved the story. I can't recount the number of books I've read by Nora Roberts but I consistently find she has done a thorough investigation of her subjects and the depth of detail keeps me coming back to her for more.
