Publisher's summary

Caterer and sleuth extraordinaire Goldy Schulz jumps from the frying pan into the fire as she tries to solve a puzzling murder that is much too close to home, in this latest entry in the New York Times best-selling series from "today's foremost practitioner of the culinary whodunit" (Entertainment Weekly).

Goldy Schulz knows her food is to die for, but she never expects one of her best friends to actually keel over when she's leaving a birthday party Goldy has catered. At first, everyone assumes that all the fun and excitement of the party, not to mention the rich fare, did her in. But what looks like a coronary turns out to be a generous serving of cold-blooded murder. And the clever culprit is just getting cooking. When a colleague - a woman who resembles Goldy - is stabbed, and Goldy is attacked outside her house, it becomes clear that the popular caterer is the main course on a killer menu. With time running out, Goldy must roll up her sleeves, sharpen her knives, and make a meal out of a devious murderer, before that killer can serve her up cold.

This enchilada has too much filling

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story is cute and at times, I think exceptionally portrayed. At other times it seems to go on and on with colorful descriptions that don't really factor into the story. No offense to Rosenblat, but it's a bit over-'acted.'

Would you recommend The Whole Enchilada: A Novel of Suspense to your friends? Why or why not?

For those who have the time, maybe. For those who want crisp story telling, no.

I love this series...

I came back here to edit my original review. I started the series over on audiobook after having read the whole series. I LOVE Barbara Rosenblat in the Mrs. Pollifax series, so I thought maybe I was wrong in my first review. Alas, I could not get through the first chapter of book 1. Maybe it's because I've read them but her voice just doesn't work for me in this series.

Original review (possibly too harsh but not incorrect): I have read every book in this series up to this one. I decided to try the audio book version. This reader is terrible. The voices she tries to do are supposed to be comical I guess? Goldie sounds like an idiot and Arch and Julian sound like pot-heads. I don't know if I can bring myself to finish the book. Yes - it's that bad.

Worth the Time

I enjoyed the overall story. I liked having Marla play a major role. I also enjoyed having the Colorado weather moved to the background. The narrator was wonderful as always. Ready for the next installment...

Another great mystery

Davidson is one of my favorite authors. She has a way of pulling you in and not letting go. Also, Rosenblat is a great narrator. The two make a great combination.

Narrator ruined the story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love reading Diane Mott Davidson, this was the first audio book I listened to of her stories about Goldie. I will return to reading. The narrator was too perky to the point of distraction from the plot. One other concern was Goldie' s police escort was in some situations that were a little inappropriate for a policeman.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Goldie' s friend Holly has a heart attack and dies after a duel 17th birthday party for Holly' s son Drew and Goldie' s son Arch. Goldie and Marla are devastated as is Julian who use to work for Holly years ago. Holly has been keeping big secrets from her friends. Was it really a heart attack that killed her. Goldie and Marla begin to investigate Holly.'s secrets but need a police escort because either Goldie is accident prone or someone is trying to get rid of her. I could relate to Goldie' s communication issues with her 17 yr old Arch. Teenager's parents usually say or do the wrong things in their teenager's eyes.
