Publisher's summary

FBI Agent Pendergast has taken Constance on a whirlwind Grand Tour, hoping to give her closure and a sense of the world that she's missed. They head to Tibet, where Pendergast intensively trained in martial arts and spiritual studies. At a remote monastery, they learn that a rare and dangerous artifact the monks have been guarding for generations has been mysteriously stolen. Pendergast agrees to take up the search.

The trail leads him and Constance to the maiden voyage of the Queen Victoria, the world's largest and most luxurious passenger liner - and to an Atlantic crossing fraught with terror.

Investigate more of Agent Pendergast's cases.

Good story, wrong reader

If you listen to the previous books you ll be disappointed with the new reader. Pendergast’s voice is gone....

Narration too slow

The story was good. Typical Pendergast. However, I had to speed the narration to 1.25x. I preferred Scott Brick.

I love The Pendergast Novels

I started to read the Pendergrast novels from novel 1, Relic, to now, The Wheel of Darkness. I gobble the books up. As soon as I'm done with one, I start the next one.

I'm not a Literary genius or a writing expert. I don't make my judgements off the correctness of punctuation and such. But rather on how the story makes me feel, keeps me interested, if it plays like a movie in my head, all with what the characters look like, the mannerisms and I can even " hear" the way they speak. All the Pendergast novels have done that for me, even thus one, except for some of the ships happenings, they seemed to go on forever. They are very detailed about the on goings of a ship inter workings.
But the introduction of the Tibetan monks, the involvement of Constance more, and a different scene other than the US was great, it was enough to make me gobble up the book, I just took more breaks than usual!!
If your a fan of A. X L. Pendergast, I'm sure you will be delighted in this novel as well.

getting to know Auberjonois

Scott Brick is not the narrator and i was worried as i got really put off by the Connelly's Harry Bosch series where after many changes you end up pass book 20 to an insipide amateurish narrator. so i started and though omg this is going to be painful but it ended an ok narrator that had big shoes to fill.

Extremely good.

I started this book a couple of years ago and never finished it. This book is very good from the eastern wisdom to the west’s technology and hubris. This book weaves a tale that is hard to put down.

Best Pendergast So Far

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was a little bit mysticism, a little bit police procedural, a little bit disaster movie. I started listening last night and finished this afternoon. I put off buying this book because the publisher's review made is sound sort of frivolous and societyish but that was misleading. There weren't any boring parts and I didn't want to stop listening. If I had been reading the book I'm sure I would have read until it was finished last night. Sometimes I get frustrated because Audible books are so much slower than when I read and my mind can drift. In this case I was sorry to have it end so soon.

Rene Auberjonois (now I know how to pronounce his name) did an excellent job of narration. I could distinguish voices, and I wasn't put off when he did female voices. He has a nice smooth voice that was pleasing to listen to and easy to understand.
