Publisher's summary

In a nondescript office building in suburban Maryland, the firm Hendley Associates does a profitable business in stocks, bonds, and international currencies, but its true mission is quite different: to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them, in whatever manner necessary. Established with the knowledge of President John Patrick Ryan, "the Campus" is always on the lookout for promising new talent, its recruiters scattered throughout the armed forces and government agencies - and three men are about to cross its radar.

The first is Dominic Caruso, a rookie FBI agent, barely a year out of Quantico, whose decisive actions resolve a particularly brutal kidnap/murder case. The second is Caruso's brother, Brian, a Marine captain just back from his first combat action in Afghanistan, and already a man to watch. And the third is their cousin...a young man named Jack Ryan, Jr.

Jack was raised on intrigue. As his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and then into the White House, Jack received a life course in the world and the way it operates from agents, statesmen, analysts, Secret Service men, and black ops specialists such as John Clark and Ding Chavez. He wants to put it all to work now, but when he knocks on the front door of "the Campus," he finds that nothing has prepared him for what he is about to encounter. For it is indeed a different world out there - and in here. And it is about to become far more dangerous.

Glitchy book

I normally can tolerate an audio book with a glitch here and there but this one annoyed the heck out of me. Some of the issue was the actual recording in where many times it would replay a small part over. Many other times the story would just stop out of the blue. I would have to close the app and restart. Very frustrating. Had there been another full length book available I would have returned this one and tried the other book.

The story itself is pretty good. I enjoy the new characters and look forward to where the writer will take the storyline.

Performance

I could not finish. Performance is too dramatic. I may buy the book. I was interested in jack Ryan’s introduction to the Campus.

Not impressed

Narrator made it hard to tell the character was speaking until several sentences in. Over 12 times the narrator or editing repeated itself sometimes a whole paragraph. Hard to follow.

the editing should be reviewed

the reader is good but when putting together the recording there have been quite some repetition of sections. i thought at first that i had pushed some rewind option on my head set but after having this more than 3 times i can confirm that it is an editing issue.

The narrator!

I liked the narration overall except the narrator repeated sentences much much too often! It was as if he didn't know he'd read a certain one and read it again or didn't like the way he'd delivered it and read it again. That was very annoying. Other than that, he did a good job. This reading needed an editor.

Editing issues

Loved the story, loved the narration. But there’s some serious editing issues. At least a dozen times throughout the book sentences get repeated. It happens so often that it becomes a distraction.

Great book

Love Stephen Hoye’s narration he has the best voice for Tom Clancy novels. Exciting and spellbinding.

Not the best

Production was poor with dialogue being repeated constantly. Very slow and could have finished in 6 hours. Thankfully I started with latest to oldest Jack Ryan series - This is by far the worst one! If you stay here it only gets better.

Interesting Premise

Found it very intriguing. Not over-the-top great, but a really good read. Thought the twins a bit arrogant, entitled, and obnoxious, but not enough to leave the book. Nice satisfying ending, though it makes you wonder who's next. Worth the time/$ investment.
