Publisher's summary

Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

He is kidnapped by Pavlo, a savage Ukrainian mobster and mastermind of the failed heist. Now blocked from getting into the bank vault to retrieve the critical item inside, Pavlo gives Nate a horrifying ultimatum: Either break in and acquire the item or watch Pavlo slowly kill the people Nate loves most - his estranged wife, Janie, and his teenaged daughter, Cielle. Nate lost them both when he came back from Iraq broken and confused. Now he’s got one chance to protect the people he loves, even if it’s the last thing he is able to do.

GOOD LISTEN -

What did you like best about The Survivor? What did you like least?

Interesting story line, good pace, I'm a fan of narrator, Brick always a great preformance. I thought the ending was a little predictable but well worth the listen.

LIke a breath of fresh air

What did you love best about The Survivor?

The pacing is excellent. The story is enjoyable and believable. The hero is intensely human, full of weaknesses and hidden strenghts. His struggle with his own demons reminds me of Shakespeare.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like the hero, can't remember his name. And the daughter.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Scott Brick's voice is grating at first but it applies well to this script.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nope.

Yes, take out the daughter

Any additional comments?

I loved this book. It was so fast moving with twists and turns. I agree the daughter is a whiny, spoiled brat.

A very unconventional lead character

I'll admit that I didn't know what I would think of this book when I read the description. It sounded like it could be more depressing than anything else. Turns out this was a great mystery thriller with a very unconventional lead character.

Amazing exciting brilliant

This book takes hold of you with the first 10 minutes and doesn’t let you go chapter after chapter. I didn’t expect to enjoy this dramatic and suspenseful book as much as I did. Or to be so moved by the plight of the story.
The author is brilliant and imaginative. The description of emotions and feelings of the main character will grip you in your heart and mind
I read the reviews criticizing the part of the 15 yr old daughter and as annoying as I found her and her ridiculous personality, I realized that it was the author bringing out more emotions from the reader. That is the sign of a great author. To make you feel for the characters, good or bad.
Scott brick is the only thing that could make a great story better. He never disappoints and I probably have 100 hours of books he’s narrated. More brilliance and talent shining from this wild ride .
Highly recommend this book and will be downloading another by this author today.

Exciting Thriller!!

This is one of the most compelling and exciting books I’ve heard in years. It’s a fun roller coaster and I hope that Gregg Hurwitz has more books just like this one. It’s kinda over the top but if you just roll with it you will LOVE this book. Scott Brick is an amazing narrator and one of my favorites! He makes this book a must listen.

When it got good, it got REALLY good!

It started with immediate action and then slowed down a bit - but when this book got back to good, it was really good and I didn’t want to put it down! The characters are believable and easy to relate to.

This was my first Gregg Hurwitz book and I have to admit that I really I enjoyed this audiobook and will listen to more from Mr Hurwitz soon! And of course, Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators, so that only added to this being a great audio listen!

Worth A 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Even 5th ReRead

Scott Brick's narration is ALWAYS SPOT ON!!

OK, the story *whew* this story will resonate in my memory banks for a long time. Intense, action-filled, worth several rereads. Is this a movie yet?? I've gotta check. If it's not, it 100% should be! This is a Jason Statham or Dwayne Johnson dream role, seriously!!

Plot summary: Dad (Nate) gets ALS. Dad decides to kill himself to spare everyone grief. But Dad is a former soldier with PTSD guilt, who suddenly hears a violent bank robbery full of senseless death behind him and steps in to save the day because a little girl reminds him of his daughter. See why I call him Dad? It gets worse because the gangster dad behind the robbery now demands recompense with threats of gruesome death to Dad's daughter. Dad tries to do things the "legally correct" way, but when that fails, and trying to run with his family fails...well, let's just say Dad takes care of business.

Gregg Hurwitz rocks!!!!😁
