I liked this book even better than "Crocodile on the Sandbank." great job, Ms Rosenblatt.

Emerson forgets Peabody

I am relistening to all the Amelia Peabody books and writing a review for them. I rated them first time about five years ago but did not write a review. They were better the first time I listened to them. On the second go round I ended up taking one star off this book. . The reason is that the book seems too long now. It needed about two hours trimmed off. The story is good but it goes on too long. Peabody and Emerson are on a dig in Egypt without Ramses. Emerson gets hit in the head and has amnesia. He doesn't remember Peabody or that he is married. This is very difficult for Peabody. People are after them and also after Ramses and Nefret These people want to learn the location of the hidden city from which Peabody and Emerson rescued Nefret. It is rich in artifacts that are worth a fortune. The Emersons want to keep the hidden city a secret. My favorite parts of this book are the letters from Ramses to his parents. They are classic Ramses material and made the book worthwhile. Ramses is far and away my favorite character in this series. There is an interesting twist at the end of this book that I did not see coming. That does not mean that the book leaves the listener hanging because the story is wrapped up nicely. It just means that future books will be able to address the twist.

The narrator gives her usual amazing performance. I admire her so much. She gives each character a distinct voice and I always know who is speaking from her accents. In my opinion the books are made much better by her performances.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Lighthearted look at British society at the turn of the century. Ms. Rosenblat's performance is superb as both Peabody and Emerson, capturing the spirit of each character. The story itself blends interesting facts about the archeological explorations in Egypt at that time with an intriguing mystery. Definitely recommend it for those looking for humor and adventure marvelously entwined in a delightful story.

Amelia Peabody reigns!

About Emerson’s Character

I couldn’t believe what a rough character Emerson is in this story. Amanda sticks with him through it all. She is I her most “emancipated “ woman role. I was caught up in Sirus character and loved the ending. I will listen to that final chapter again.
This story is a “full five stars” episode in Egypt.
Barbara Rosenblat is truly AMAZING. She can be so many different voices. I never had to guess at who was speaking.

Egypt it's people and archeology from the era are brought to life through these wonderful stories

Wonderfully entertaining

I am a long-time Audible subscriber and have listened to 100's of audiobooks but this series by Elizabeth Peters, featuring Amelia Peabody Emerson, her husband Radcliffe Emerson and their inimitable son Ramses, is my favorite of all time. Though I have read the hard copy series, the incredible narration by Barbara Roseblat makes the audible version superior. She IS Amelia Peabody, and Emerson, and Ramses, etc, etc. Her characterization is so superb that you can unhesitatingly identify the character. The entire series is wonderfully funny, suspenseful at times and above all, you will fall in love with the Emerson family and not be able to wait for the next book to continue their joyful romp through life. I promise you that if you have not read this series, you are in for a wonderful treat.

Simply Addictive

This is Book 7 which means that I've spent the last half year listening to Amelia Peabody. And whenever I've finished one I looked forward to the renewal of my subscription so I could get the next book. If this doesn't tell you what I think of this series, nothing else I say will.
I love Peabody (as she's affectionately called by her Emerson), the way she talks, behaves and misjudges herself and others (of course, without being aware of it). Plus. Ms. Rosenblat's reading is on the spot.

My favorite

Funny witty and my favorite Amelia Peabody book. With an amazing narration. Loads of fun.

Always delightful

Always a good read. Amelia Peabody Emerson was born ahead of her time and didn't let that stop her from doing what she enjoyed doing. She, along with her archaeologist husband, are always getting into scraps that one or both of them have to get out of. You will smile, wonder what's coming next, and hate for the book to end because you have to put a friend on the shelf. Thoroughly delightful.
