Publisher's summary

Edgar Roy - an alleged serial killer held in a secure, fortress-like Federal Supermax facility-is awaiting trial. He faces almost certain conviction. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are called in by Roy's attorney, Sean's old friend and mentor Ted Bergin, to help work the case. But their investigation is derailed before it begins-en route to their first meeting with Bergin, Sean and Michelle find him murdered.

It is now up to them to ask the questions no one seems to want answered: Is Roy a killer? Who murdered Bergin? With help from some surprising allies, they continue to pursue the case. But the more they dig into Roy's past, the more they encounter obstacles, half-truths, dead-ends, false friends, and escalating threats from every direction. Their persistence puts them on a collision course with the highest levels of the government and the darkest corners of power. In a terrifying confrontation that will push Sean and Michelle to their limits, the duo may be permanently parted.

Juxtaposing the incredible brain power abilities of a character in this book to the advances in artificial intelligence.

Dislike: Michelle's spoken voice and she seemed a little corny. Liked: The nuances of character development and the descriptions of places and things.

One of the best of the series.

Don’t let the naysayers stop you from getting this book. It was one of the best in the series. Keeps you guessing and will hook you in almost from the first chapter.

Baldacci - SixthMan

I read where others really panned the female reader. I was in no way offended or let down. Many books are totally ready by one gender who represents both sexes. Certainly, you must agree that having both sexes represented beats reading.

Not my favorite

Good story, though a little far fetched. As others have said, the female narrator just didn't fit. I don't think she's a bad narrator as some stated, just not a fit for how I envisioned the character of Michelle.

It's a great continuation of this series

If you could sum up The Sixth Man in three words, what would they be?

tense, surprising, edgy

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes it did

Which character – as performed by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy – was your favorite?

Michelle

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was most surprised by the last two major events. They were a surprise but confirmed my suspicions I'd had all along.

Any additional comments?

I bought this book despite the bad review someone had done on it. I really liked the male and female voices for a change. It added to the story. Glad I took a chance and bought it.

The Sixth Man

Best of his adventures yet. Only took 2 days to complete the listen. He's definitely at the top of his game.

Good story & narration. Sound effects discusting.

The story was just what I expected from Mr. Baldacci, a fast pace thriller with a plot that makes enough sense to be interesting.

I marked the performance as two stars not because of the narrators but because some of the sound effects turned my stomach and the maudlin music at the end.

The sound effects that made me sick to my stomach were the sounds of Michelle's kicks and punches that were just too graphic. They did not sound like a fight at all but just gruesome sounds of bones breaking interspersed among the text. It's a book not a radio-play.

The music at the end of the story was not well selected for my taste and mixed too prominently.

My Review

The lead reader is excellent, The female reader not so. I would have enjoyed the novel more without the sound effects.

Another Wonderful Suspense

The Sixth Man, a novel by David Baldacci
Another Wonderful Suspense
Jean A. Vachon
Rockland - I’ve read several Baldacci novels. THE SIXTH MAN is another fantastic suspense story where Sean King and Michelle Maxwell team up to solve a complex US administration corruption.
They are initially convened by Ted Bergin, Edgar Roy’s attorney defending Edgar Roy, an alleged serial killer awaiting trial in a Federal supermax facility.
When Maxwell reaches his old friend and mentor, Bergin has been murdered. The attorney and special investigator with his assistant then take matters in hand and unravel a complex and treacherous felony in a vital US department.
Edgar Roy turns out to be the tip of the iceberg in a series of murders to mask the truth.
An entertaining and well written story which I strongly recommend in it’s book or audio version.
