Publisher's summary

Edgar Roy - an alleged serial killer held in a secure, fortress-like Federal Supermax facility-is awaiting trial. He faces almost certain conviction. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are called in by Roy's attorney, Sean's old friend and mentor Ted Bergin, to help work the case. But their investigation is derailed before it begins-en route to their first meeting with Bergin, Sean and Michelle find him murdered.

It is now up to them to ask the questions no one seems to want answered: Is Roy a killer? Who murdered Bergin? With help from some surprising allies, they continue to pursue the case. But the more they dig into Roy's past, the more they encounter obstacles, half-truths, dead-ends, false friends, and escalating threats from every direction. Their persistence puts them on a collision course with the highest levels of the government and the darkest corners of power. In a terrifying confrontation that will push Sean and Michelle to their limits, the duo may be permanently parted.

Another great Baldacci thriller!

What made the experience of listening to The Sixth Man the most enjoyable?

I kind of like the sound effects and dramatic music. I'm not inclined to be too critical of the presentation. It's not a Hollywood production and there is no reason to expect anything overly fancy.

What did you like best about this story?

The story had many plot twists and you never knew who was on who's side. As with other books in this series, a little bit of the puzzle is revealed gradually with each chapter. It kept me interested. I finished listening in 3 days.

What about Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s performance did you like?

I was worried about the narration based on the comments, but I thought it was fine. I'd rather McLarty narrate it by himself but I didn't think the addition of Cassidy ruined anything. They are the narrators for the next book, King and Maxwell, and it isn't going to stop me from buying that audiobook. They are simply reading the book. In my mind I already have a mental image of what Sean and Michelle look and sound like. The accents didn't bother me..it's just their take on the characters.

Good story. Awful performances.

It’s not so much about the actors themselves. It’s about the wrong voice casting. Ron & Orlagh are fine actors but their voices don’t work for the roles of King & Maxwell. Orlagh sounds the same with each female character she portrayed. It just doesn’t work. If they were going to do two voice actors, they should have done a third for narration. You can’t tell half the time when Ron is Sean or Narrating. Don’t get me started on the unnecessary sound effects. It really hurts the flow of an otherwise excellent story.

all audio books should be like this

to all audio book producers. follow the example here. great production value. it's nice having a woman play women's parts and a man playing mend parts. ok voices. adding sound effects also really gives you s movie feel in your head. great job.

The Narrators Make The Book

My headline sums up my feelings. Ron Mclarty and Orlagh Cassidy are a superb team for narration and made this book especially enjoyable for me. The story is great too, but frankly, you expect that from an author of this caliber. It's the narrators who make an audiobook enjoyable. The male/female team up is a great concept and I hope we see more of it as the audiobook industry matures.

Good series

Enjoy listening to this series with these two readers. Looking forward to the next in the series. The relationship between the two characters develops as they take care of business. Entertaining

This line of writing is really Baldacci's forte.

Several of his books have been a real disappointment. Hell's Corner was not to my liking as much as Wish You Well. Could not get into either book. The Camel Club Trilogy were outstanding but then faded as the story lines faltered in later books.

The Michelle Maxwell/Sean King series though provide real entertainment and were a real treat to listen to. This particular book, The Sixth Man was especially entertaining and I did not see the twist coming at the end as it did. This type of storytelling was what attracted me to David Baldacci in the first place.

I reccommend this book to all thriller lovers.

well done... AGAIN...

keep writing... just faster... or maybe use voice to text so that way you can still "write" your book while doing other things. that could hopefully help get to a book a month! please.

. ,I don't understand the bad reviews.

This was a great book to me. I don't have a problem with the southern accent, mostly because no one gets that right.
This book did make me HAVE to read the next book though.
