Publisher's summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer - and a sinister killer bent on destruction - in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

I guessed the ending halfway through!

Would you listen to The Silkworm again? Why?

Did I enjoy the book? Sure! Mostly due to Robert Glenister's amazing narration. He really sunk into each character to where you truly felt them. However, I am pretty disappointed that I guessed who the killer was so early on. It was glaringly obvious after a one fact came out and I am by no means a detective. Still, I am glad I listened and it kept me entertained!

Would you be willing to try another book from Robert Galbraith? Why or why not?

Yes, but mostly because of my love for J.K. Rowling.

What does Robert Glenister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A real connection with the characters!

Just Gets Better

OMG enjoyed the heck out of this second book. Still in love with Strike and Robin but have grown to dislike Mathew much more than the first book. I loved how Strike stuck to his guns even if its a chance to ruin a friendship and a lighter paycheck. Also Robin has more backbone then I thought she did. She didn't bow down to Mathew even though he hated her new job, and Strike has the habits of a grumpy bear. She can handle it as well as this case. This was interesting for the fact that Robin was out in the field more. To see the bad cop and good cop was fun. Can't wait for Robin to train more to be more involved in other cases.

the case was supposed to be a simply find a missing author Owen Quine however it didn't turn out to be that simply. Now with the cops looking in the wrong place and only his instinct to guide him. Strike and Robin dig deep into the last book Quine wrote which shows the uglier side of the people around him.

I love listening to the audio version because I love the voice that Robert Glenister brings to Comoran Strike character. Plus since this book is a bit length and little blah in parts listening to it makes the experience quicker. Plus this book is 17hrs 22 mins long by listening and it was just fun that you forgot the length.

Other than Mathew acting the way he did plus the whole Charlotte thing. I really love how these book was brought together because I can never figure out who what or why. Which makes it a really good mystery to me. Now onto Career of Evil.

I liked the first one better

I enjoyed this book although I have a feeling this is one better read in print than audio. I had a hard time following certain parts. The ending wasn't quite as compelling as I would have hoped but over all it was a good listen and kept my attention.

Robert Glenister IS Cormoran Strike!

Nobody else can deliver the performance as Robert Glenister. He's a keeper. As long as he remains Cormoran Strike, I'll keep listening.

Fascinating characters in a complex, believable mystery beautifully written

The character descriptions were remarkable, and the mystery unfolded in unpredictable, dramatic and yet always believable fashion. The banalities that even well written mysteries frequently suffer from were absent and the humanity of the characters, both principle and secondary, never overlooked.
