"Her gift is pure genius." (Observer)
"An amusing, exciting, well-written story." (Outlook)
"All signs indicate that Mrs Christie has been reading P.G. Wodehouse, and she does it very well in spots. This is her gayest thriller and mustn't be missed." (Books)

An absolutely excellent reading of an Agatha Christie mystery. Emilia Fox is superb at clear characterisation and the pace is spot on. The audio quality was consistent and clear throughout, with no noticible changes of pace or style.
I had not read this book before so the audio version was a delight, with Christie providing a 'subtle'plot. :-> Plenty of characters, some intersting locations and more red herrings than a Finish dinner party. Audio perfection!
"Another car journey made interesting"
I really enjoyed listening to this as I drove to and from my brother's house. It's a light hearted Agatha Christie with a strong female lead. I thought I knew who had done it, changed my mind, and then found out I was right all along. The very end was a bit of a surprise, though. It is read clearly and with expression
"Enid Blyton for Adults!"
Be ware this is one of Christie's early work and very unlike her more mature offerings.
Very 'boys' own' and Woosteresque with a bit of jolly hockey sticks thrown in.
I was going to give it two stars but the fantastic ending brought it up to three.
I won't be listening to Emelia Fox again, she just played up comedy aspects and it was irritating.
Story ok but awful awful narration , probably would've been better done by a male actor
"Steven Dials Mystery"
A groups of young proper go to chimneys for the weekend by the end of the week end one is dead apparently an overdose but was it???? A few days later his best friend dies in mysterious circumstances his dying words were Seven Dials...... What did he mean???
"Not Agatha's best"
No. I don't believe it is to Agatha Christie's usual standard and rather point a friend to some of her better mystery novels.
Another of Agatha's novels.
"Emilia Fox was excellent!"
I had my doubts as to how well Emilia Fox would read this. But she was excellent.
The story was gripping and fun. She really made the characters come to life and added humour to those characters.
"Not a good Christie story, and not well read!"
I have listened to nearly all the Agatha Christie books available onAudible, and this one is nothing like as interesting as most of the others - it seems more like a Famous Five mystery than a whodunnit for adults, and Emilia Fox's reading of it only exaggerates the feeling that you're listening to a very dated children's story.
I have heard other performances by Emilia Fox which are much better.
"Classic Christie thrill!"
Yes definitely, because I think you always miss some details on the first listen, by hearing it again, you get a fuller picture and more enjoyment.
It keeps you hooked from the beginning, the characters are all interesting and individual, classic characters which add up to a full story, the descriptions of the settings, how the story unfolds and plays out is very cleverly written. I thought for sure I had guessed who dunnit but was surprised with the reveal at the end. It evoked an essence of the period before the age of mobile phones and social media and makes me wish sometimes that life was still that simple. Loved this book and will be getting the next Inspector Battle story.
All the characters are wonderful and Emilia Fox read them brilliantly. Even the way she pronounced Alarm clocks as Alarum clocks! really good, I loved Jimmy Thessinger but Lady Eileen Brent (Bundle) was a strong woman who feared nothing and took anything on to get to the truth. She was my favourite. An early role model for women of today.
The only emotion I felt was one of joy, I loved listening to the story and really didnt want it to end. It made me laugh in places but overall because it is a great story with a fantastic plot, one of Agatha Christies best I think. Really glad I chose this book.
loved it, a different Christie, focusing on the young and fresh-faced youth involved in a deadly secret society with humour romance and murder thrown in!
