Publisher's Summary

The Road is a chilling and highly gripping thriller from one of Australia's best storytellers.

Having previously written over 20 books, this author now breaks into exciting new territory with a menacing desert thriller.

A shocking and gruesome murder wakes an ancient evil in outback Australia. A truck driver, a schoolboy, and a retired couple on their dream holiday are among a group of travelers caught up in a supernatural time loop. Trapped on a long stretch of the Silver City Highway, just outside Broken Hill, they enter a nightmarish journey from which there seems no escape. Following the gruesome discovery of the bloodied and battered bodies of a young woman and a man on a property not far from the highway, the truck driver is forced to confront the very real possibility that there is a killer on the loose and then convince his fellow travelers that they are all in danger.

    "spookiness in the outback"

A stellar reader and a well-drawn tale kept me tethered to my iPod. I am not regular devotee of horror, but this book succeeded in being genuinely weird and downright creepy. The reader was SUPERB at giving all the characters distinctive personalities. My only quibble is that I think the writer wrote herself into a bit of a corner--how do you get out of a no-win, Kobiyashi Maru scenario if you're not James T. Kirk?--and needed to wrap things up as quickly and tidily as possible. That meant, of course, that some of the worst and best people had to die, and you'll see whom from a long way off. A shame, but still not enough of a flaw to demote the book a star. Even King punts now and again (e.g., _Cell_).

    "Please Don't"

This book takes too long to get where it is going and when it finally does, it makes no sense. Nothing is really explained and you are left to guess how and why are certain key points. One star because I couldn't choose zero. Give me credit back along with the time wasted listneing to this horrible book.

    "Neverending Road"

This was a really creepy idea, and there was a constant air of suspense throughout the reading. Various people are traveling down a road when a recently separated mother tries to outrun a vicious ex-partner.

It doesn't matter how far you travel along this road, you never reach your destination. What are you going to do when you run out of petrol?
