Publisher's summary

Longtime defense attorney Mickey Haller is recruited to change stripes and prosecute the high-profile retrial of a brutal child murder. After 24 years in prison, convicted killer Jason Jessup has been exonerated by new DNA evidence. Haller is convinced Jessup is guilty, and he takes the case on the condition that he gets to choose his investigator, LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.

Together, Bosch and Haller set off on a case fraught with political and personal danger. Opposing them is Jessup, now out on bail, a defense attorney who excels at manipulating the media, and a runaway eyewitness reluctant to testify after so many years.

With the odds and the evidence against them, Bosch and Haller must nail a sadistic killer once and for all. If Bosch is sure of anything, it is that Jason Jessup plans to kill again.

Politics Here?

I'm an avid Connelly fan. At least, I was. I've listened and enjoyed all the Bosch series and have enjoyed Micky Haller almost as much as Bosch. Peter Giles is perfect for this genre. HOWEVER, when an entertainer, (I would put a writer of novels in this category) just HAS to insert his politics into the story, where it is totally unnecessary to the plot or story line, I AM DONE. The love story is over. Ruined.

A different view

This is the story I was waiting for Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch working a case together and not just them but they have Maggie McFierce working with them - after 12 year old Melissa Landy was taken and brutally murdered the police used the testimony of her sister to charge and convict Jason jessup of the crime. Now it is 24 years later and new evidence has exonerated Jason from the crime, at first I thought that Mickey was going to be on his normal side and devending Jason, but this book gives us a twist and now he is working on the Presecution side but as a Prosecuter for hire. When Mickey was approached with this opportunity the one condition he had was to choose his half Brother Harry as the Investigator to work with, and I could not wait for this dinamic duo to show out. One thing that is driving these two men are the fact that they have daughters who are close to the age Melissa was when she was taken and murdered, and the one thing that they hate is a child killer so now together they are on the case and ready to make sure that Jason Jessup does not walk away a free man. Most of this story is told from in the court during the trial which is a different type of view than most of the books. I really like one part in the court when one of the witnesses freaked out while on the stand.

More Harry Bosch!

Would you listen to The Reversal again? Why?

I'd listen to this book again - but not immediately. I'm a mystery/legal thriller addict and find that I can go back to many that I've enjoyed and re-listen. This is one with enough twists and interesting characters that I'll be back to it in the future.

Have you listened to any of Peter Giles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm in the middle of listening to the Harry Bosch series and have become familiar with how the voices of the characters "should" sound. I liked this performance!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Defense attorney crosses the aisle to retry a "cold" child murder, makes some key mistakes, but uses the best homicide investigator to unearth new clues.

Any additional comments?

Michael Connelly has a great series with Harry Bosch!

Another good book!

Michael Connelly never disappoints. This is a shorter story than most of his but still very engaging and suspenseful.

Really?

Great story! I love Bosch and Haller working together, but what a letdown when it ended so soon!! Seriously a very vanilla ending, and it seemed rushed.
