Critic reviews

"The pace is frenetic, the fear and paranoia palpable, and the characters heartbreakingly honest. Iles strikes not one false note.” (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

“Would make James Lee Burke or even Pat Conroy proud. This is storytelling at its absolute best, a tale of near-epic status.” (Providence Sunday Journal)

“A superb legal-conspiracy thriller that brings the deep South to life…an enthralling tale.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Excellent

This book was by far the best I have listened to in many years. I am sure much of my enjoyment that I derived from this publication is due to being born and growing up in this general area but the content and the presentation draw you in to the life of the main characters and you find yourself living and in my case relating to the majority of not only the lifestyle but yes the politics of the Natchez Mississippi Area and of the tumultuous times of the late 60s in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Credits well-spent!

Highly recommend this book. I listen to ALOT of audible books and this one is right up there with my very favorites. Suspenseful, interesting, well-organized plot; great characters; and told by an outstanding narrator! This guy does a really stellar job!! I'd love to hear more books read by him.

First book of Greg Iles but not the last!

I really enjoyed the depth in Greg Iles writing. I liked that all the loose strings of this were brought together at the end. I'm ready to read the next one!

Jodi Hornsby

I am in love with Penn Cage! Great story! Some really high drama and an interesting storyline. Not as exciting as the Natchez trilogy but very good. I especially like the way Isles treats the turbulent times in Mississippi during the 60’s and 70’s. A worthwhile listen!!
