FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES

An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!

Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Spellbinding!!

I’m giving this book 5 stars because it kept wanting more. All the twists & turns left you wondering from one chapter to the next. I listen while I’m commuting and there was a couple of times I had to continue after arriving home. The narration was excellent & I will look for this narrator again.

Twists and turns

This was such a good book. So many twists and turns, it literally had me riding the front of my chair. The reader mispronounced some words which irked me a bit but still did not detract from the overall story.

Fantastic narration!

I really enjoyed this audio book. The writing and story line was excellent. But the narration was over the top perfect. Buck Schirner handled multiple voices very well—never a slip-up. I highly recommend this book.

Very good storytelling, annoying narration...

I bought the Audible version originally but wound up buying the Kindle version to finish reading. Connolly is a fine story-teller and this is an exceptionally interesting story with lots of plot twists and intriguing characters. Maybe it's just me but I find his "love scenes" to be his weak point. Too many "long moments" and "reaching for him/her" but since those seem to be incidental to the story it is a minor complaint.

I did not enjoy the narration. I felt the narrator tried too hard to make the voices of the various characters distinctive almost to the point of caricature.

Still a gripping tale and well worth the time spent reading.

A Connelly Classic

In my opinion ties with the best of Connelly's Harry Bosch novels and almost as good as the Lincoln Laywer.

Connelly;s first is still one of the best!

Where does The Poet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Connelly kicked off his writing career with this story and as performed by Buck Schirner, the story holds up after all these years.

Story just okay

The story was just okay...I may have liked it more with a different reader. This narrator read VERY slowly with long pauses. I listened to it sped up 2x which made it seem kind of choppy but at least it wasn't so slow.

Hard to put down! Wow was this great.

Loved the characters, the intrigue, the tempo. This is one I will listen to over and over. And I'm pretty picky!!
