Publisher's summary

FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES

An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!

Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Reader captures Connelly's voice

Buck Shirmer does a great job of bringing Jack McAvoy alive. He captures the voice of Connelly's character perfectly.

It took a while

Slow at first......accelerated bit by bit.....and ended up with an amazing ending

So many twists and turns it was remarkable Connelly tied up all the disparate ends....he's a Demi-genius

Lots of twists and turns

Where does The Poet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was good, but not the best. There were a few things that were too incredible to be believable. Certain things seemed contrived to throw the reader off.

Which character – as performed by Buck Schirner – was your favorite?

the journalist

good story with an interesting twist

Connelly tells a good story and I've always liked his characters. I think this one could have used a bit more editing--it gets a little long-winded in places. I liked the reader--good emotion and very clear voices that seemed natural for the characters.

Boy am I glad I discovered this book

What made the experience of listening to The Poet the most enjoyable?

The narration is outstanding. For a guy with such a deep voice, he sure flexes it without sounding silly. I thoroughly enjoyed this narration. 5/5.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For the most part, the plot kept me on edge. I did struggle initially to get into it and had to replay the first two chapters a few times so that I could pay my undivided attention to it.

What about Buck Schirner’s performance did you like?

Everything. This guy is super-talented. I don't really want to search for other titles as he is Jack Mack (sic) to me. Maybe after I listen to a few others first could I go back to listening to some more Buck Schirner.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really. I smiled a few times at the banter.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I discovered this book after The Scarecrow had been released. I empathize with those who have unfortunately had to wait a good few years (decade, I think) for a sequel.I don't know how I would have handled it. I'm currently listening to The Scarecrow. I played it immediately after The Poet ended.
