FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES

An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!

Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Book not recommended

While this book follows the general style of the author, the title and description is misleading. The criminal is a pedafile and the description of his crimes is disgusting. I discontinued listening 40 min after the pedafile theme was introduced. I’m NOT interested in reading about the thinking or detailed acts of o pedafile! NOT RECOMMENDED!

twisted just as I figured it out

loved this story. Thought I had it figured out when the story took an unexpected path.

Although I enjoyed the story, I struggled through the performance. Voice was robotic. Felt like something happened in edit

TOO BAD JACK IS WACK

I’ve listened to all of Connelly’s books and appreciate his storytelling ability.

Unfortunately, after listening to all three “Jack Mack” stories, I’m left with the conclusion that Jack is simply not a sharp needle. He’s annoying. He’s incredibly self centered. He’s whiny. He’s always very slow to put things together. He is just not a likable protagonist. That puts a taint on all books in which he is in the driver’s seat.

I hope that Connelly will move on from this series and perhaps branch out with antiheroes we can more readily respect and appreciate.

Great ending

I couldn’t keep up with who the Villian was going to be and couldn’t wait to get back to the next chapter each time I had to shut it off. I highly recommend this book.

Big Connelly Fan

Stories may be gritty, but always are very good read. I prefer the audiobooks as a means to enjoy them.

A New Connelly Character For Me

I like most of the Harry Bosch books so I wasn't sure how I would like a new protagonist from Connelly. The book had enough deviations that made it worthwhile. I think if you like Connelly's style of writing then you will not be disappointed with this one.

Lost in translation

Love Stuart Woods’ stories so bought this old novel. I finally quit halfway through due to the incredibly bad narration. The herky jerky cadence and inconsistent voicing made no sense. I’ll read this one the old-fashioned way, thank you.

Must read!

If you’re a fan of Connelly or never read his work don’t miss this one. Captivating, thought provoking and unexpected storyline. Very well written as you’d expect from this author. Had a hard time putting it down.
