Publisher's summary

To save the lives of her friends, Rachel did the unthinkable: she willingly trafficked in forbidden demon magic. And now her sins are coming home to haunt her.

As Rachel searches for the truth behind a terrifying murder, an even greater menace threatens, for the demon Algaliarept will stop at nothing to claim her, and the discovery of a shocking family secret throws Rachel's entire life into question. If she is ever to live free, Rachel must first walk willingly into the demonic ever-after in search of long-lost ancient knowledge.

But when you dance with demons, you lay your soul on the line...and there are some lines that should never be crossed.

I hate it when authors change performers like this

Would you listen to The Outlaw Demon Wails again? Why?

No I wouldn't the performer/ reader has no depth in her performances and apparently is hooked on foniks, as a scifi fan and reader of many series of this type, and even I know that it's pronounced lay line not lee line !

What didn’t you like about Gigi Bermingham’s performance?

Any additional comments?

Sadly I am unable to just sit back and read a hard copy of this book as a truck driver I am stuck with listening to this horrid performance as I drive since I don't like being left in the dark for the next book.... I bet Big Al would owe us a favor just to get rid of her lol

Does not live up to previous narrarator

Would you try another book from Kim Harrison and/or Gigi Bermingham?

Kim Harrison yes, not sure about Gigi

What did you like best about this story?

It was a wonderful story, would like to hear it redone by Margarite Gavin

What didn’t you like about Gigi Bermingham’s performance?

She tried, but just could not live up to the reading of the previous woman. She had really big shoes to fill.

Just read the book.

The story was great but the performance was cringeworthy. The inappropriately placed musical interludes mixed with the mispronunciation of half the names drove me insane. I thought book 4 was bad when they kept mispronouncing Mackinac. This was worse.

Ugh! It's a good thing I love the series...

I don't know why some series decide to change narrators in the middle of the series. So it's a good thing I'm fully invested in the story & characters otherwise I might've given up on this audiobook after the very first mispronounced word. I assumed that there would be an attempt at continuity but the narrator destroyed ALL hope by butchering words such as; ley lines, Piscary, Algaliarept and many more.
Thank goodness the next book is performed by the original narrator.

Worst narration ever

I hate to be critical of narrators because I certainly can't do this job, but it's very hard to even listen to this book because the narration is so terrible. Top that off with the stupid melodramatic music at the end of each chapter. This book needs to be re-issued with Marguerite Gavin! Please.

Great story...meh performance

This book is fantastic. The narrator is AWFUL!! If you have the time, just read it. I pushed through. This is my second time with this series, one of my absolute favorites. I was going to skip this but there’s too much in this book I didn’t want to miss and I didn’t have the time to sit and read.

Why change narrator?

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I really enjoy this series as a whole.

Did Gigi Bermingham do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

After 5 books with the previous narrator, this was quite a shock and disappointment. I've never written a review, but this really got under my skin. The new narrator reads like all the characters are old ladies - which means she does Rachael's mother really great! Ivy no longer has a sultry, sexy, alluring vamp voice, she just sounds like a depressed human. All the pixie voices are the same - although she has nailed the "annoying" part of their voices. Rachael has lost her "fire", she no longer sounds like a late 20-something butt-kicker - the tone and way the sentences are emphasized makes her sound old. Al and Mineus might as well be the same demons. All of this might have been more easily swallowed except to top it off, words that are central to story/series are now pronounced differently. Examples are "lay-line" is now "lee-line" and "pis-carry" is now "pis-cur-ee" -- it really pulls the listener "out" of the story and make them say "who, what?" This all distracts from getting/staying caught up in the story. I find myself spending a lot of time thinking "Rachael would never say it in that way" (wrong emphasis or lack of sass/attitude). This will not keep me from continuing the series, because the series hooked me good. But I'd really like the old narrator back!!

Narration S@@ks

As always the story was great but the narration was a STRUGGLE to get through!! I wanted to scream it was so bad!! Thank goodness the next book went back to the original narrator, or I wouldn't be able to finish the series through audiobook.

Narrator needs practice with pronunciation

Distracted and struggled with the many words that were mispronounced such as; Piscary, ley lines, Takata, etc. since these are important aspects of the story all I could focus on was how they pronounced.
