Publisher's summary

The indomitable Amelia Peabody and her husband, known to many as "the Father of Curses", are into archaeology and mischief again. This third in the series brings the reader once more into Egypt and the shady world of black market antiquities. The winter excavation season has hardly yet begun when Amelia stumbles onto what looks suspiciously like a ring of thieves.

Amelia's not the type to take no for an answer, and pretty soon the Emerson family (Master Ramses, a prodigious young intellect is joining his parents for the first time) is tracking down a character known only as The Master Criminal. Or is the Master Criminal tracking them?

Elizabeth Peters does it again!

Amelia and Emerson are off to Egypt for another wild adventure. They are accompanied by their son Ramses. Their precocious son?s antics left me with tears of laughter rolling down my face. While other children are being tucked into bed by nannies, Ramses is reading hieroglyphics and expressing opinions on topics a person decades older would find difficult to understand. Barbara Rosenblat has captured Ramses? childish tones perfectly.

Speaking of Mummies...

It is not Amelia's style of mothering that I admire but her acceptance of how she sees her role as Ramsey's mother, Amelia is just herself. Her interactions with others, even the cat, seem natural and believable. This is such a great series!

Amusing, clever, intriguing, quirky, and best accents ever!

It’s a mystery. It’s a fun story. Well, people DO get murdered. So it can be creepy too! There are some real cliff-hanger moments.
The characters are outrageous. Eccentric to the nth degree.
The narrator is perfect. Many different accents are required and she performs each one totally convincingly.
I can’t wait for the next book!
The listening experience is so enjoyable that I would not want to try to read it myself. The narrator brings these characters to life!
This book surely must have been fun to write. I hope the author writes MANY more!

Charming Egyptian Archeological mystery

I loved the authors style and word choice. She has captured the feel of the late 1800's and created an early womens libber who wore bussels and graduated to pantaloons. If you enjoy light mysteries without a lot of violence, you will enjoy these.

I particularly enjoy the narrator who brings out the humor in the authors writing. Her English accent is great and easily understandable for an American audience.

A delight

As always with Peabody, Emerson & Ramses --- believable dialogue, humor, an intriguing mystery, interesting characters and Barbara Rosenblatt's superb narration.

More Fun with the Emersons

Where does The Mummy Case rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I can't really rate the books this way. Overall, I have been extremely satisfied with all the audiobooks I have listened to so far. Some narrators are better in one way, others in another way, but quality is good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ramses Emerson is my favorite in this particular episode in the adventures of the Emerson family. Amelia Peabody Emerson is, of course, the main character and always a hoot. This first appearance of Ramses as a primary character is a lot of fun. He is a young genius whose escapades, while always completely logical to him, cause a lot of trouble--but eventually save the day.

This book also marks the first appearance of the "Master Criminal," who comes to play a great part in the ongoing Emerson family adventures.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

Ms. Rosenblat has a very pleasant voice to listen to, has good expression in bringing out the meaning and tone of each passage, and does a mostly excellent job in voicing the individual characters. My only reservation is with her voice for Emerson. He comes out sounding like an 80-year-old heavy smoker nearly on his last gasp. Though this portrayal of Emerson is disappointing to me, the rest is so good that I manage to overlook it in the overall experience of the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Adventure, suspense, and humor amongst the relics of ancient Egypt!

Any additional comments?

I have the entire Amelia Peabody Emerson saga in book form. I enjoyed experiencing it in a new way through the audio book. I have some vision problems which make it increasingly difficult to read fine print, so I am now "collecting" an audio library as well as the print library I have.

Meet The Emersons

I thoroughly enjoyed the Emersons. Ramses is delightful. Radcliff with all of his bluster is a wonderful father. Amelia and Radcliff's love story is heartwarming even though she leaves much to be desired as a mother; her son seems to love and understand her
I look forward to the next family adventure.
