Publisher's summary

In a daring and chilling debut, Brad Thor draws us into a sinister labyrinth of political intrigue and international terrorism, serving up an explosive cocktail of unrelenting action as one man is pushed to the edge.

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the unthinkable has just become a nightmarish reality: 30 Secret Service agents have been viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States kidnapped by one of the most lethal terrorist organizations in the Middle East - the Fatah Revolutionary Council.

But surviving agent and ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath doesn't believe the Fatah Revolutionary Council is responsible for the attack. Driven by his professional code of duty and honor, Harvath creates his own rules to get some answers. But his search for the truth raises the blood pressure of his superiors...and casts his own life in mortal jeopardy. The deadly machinations have been set in motion by a shadowy coalition, comprising some of the highest-ranking officials in government and business - men who operate above the law, men who realize the threat Harvath poses to their hidden agenda...men who will do anything to stop him.

Framed for murder and on the run, Harvath takes his own brand of justice to the towering mountains of Switzerland where he finds an improbable ally in the beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney's Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus - and enter the den of the most notorious team of professional killers the world has ever known.

Story is Extremely Far Fetched

The plotline was intriguing but the inconsistencies were breathtaking. Like how the most deadly assassins in the world suddenly can't hit anything when they come up against Scott. Or how Harvath and an attorney are able to wipe out two deadly hit squads. Or how Harvath, who never misses anything, allows a female attorney to get the jump on him and put a gun in his back. Anyway, the story strains credulity a bit too much for me.

Good story, but cheesy at times

I liked the storyline but it was had cheesy one liners all throughout. Sometimes to descriptive of what people were thinking.

Difficult to Follow? Maybe a Little.

I found it a little difficult to follow the characters and stay immersed in the story, but it was engaging enough to keep listening. Will listen to more by this author to see if it is a pattern or just this particular book. As I mentioned, it was only a LITTLE difficult.

Very good Story

Would you listen to The Lions of Lucerne again? Why?

I heard such great things about this author. However, I didn't want to start in the middle of a series, so I started at the beginning. Great book for the opening of the series. The narrator kept me interested and did not become monologue or mondanined.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Scott has to be the best character.

Great first book

I've read a few Brad Thor books out of order and decided to start at the beginning, and the audible version has helped me move along in a timely manner.

Disappointing listen.

I struggled to finish it. I listened because of a recommendation. The author needs to learn more about guns and phraseology. This book was ridiculous and unbelievable.

Better the 2nd time around

I have listened to all of the books in this series and now, in an effort to find good stories to listen to, I am going back through the series - beginning to current. This was an even better story than I remembered and I now know how I got hooked on the Scott Harvath audiobooks. Thanks Audible for making it so much easier to listen to this time! Rod C
