Publisher's summary

In a daring and chilling debut, Brad Thor draws us into a sinister labyrinth of political intrigue and international terrorism, serving up an explosive cocktail of unrelenting action as one man is pushed to the edge.

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the unthinkable has just become a nightmarish reality: 30 Secret Service agents have been viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States kidnapped by one of the most lethal terrorist organizations in the Middle East - the Fatah Revolutionary Council.

But surviving agent and ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath doesn't believe the Fatah Revolutionary Council is responsible for the attack. Driven by his professional code of duty and honor, Harvath creates his own rules to get some answers. But his search for the truth raises the blood pressure of his superiors...and casts his own life in mortal jeopardy. The deadly machinations have been set in motion by a shadowy coalition, comprising some of the highest-ranking officials in government and business - men who operate above the law, men who realize the threat Harvath poses to their hidden agenda...men who will do anything to stop him.

Framed for murder and on the run, Harvath takes his own brand of justice to the towering mountains of Switzerland where he finds an improbable ally in the beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney's Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus - and enter the den of the most notorious team of professional killers the world has ever known.

Lack of accuracy was very distracting

Being from the area where the book is set, I was excited to listen. The story goes to great lengths in describing locales and details of the area, but falls short in accuracy. Also, details about law enforcement, ski areas, and avalanche protocols were way off-base.

Old school vibe, thoroughly enjoyed.

Tough-guy spies and bad guys doing tough-guy things. Fabulous narration. Enjoyed very much.

Intense!

Enjoyed the story line but did not like the incorrect information about the couple that were members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In the Beginning...

What made the experience of listening to The Lions of Lucerne the most enjoyable?

The narrator is one of my favorites, Armand Schultz.

What other book might you compare The Lions of Lucerne to and why?

Other books in this series. This is book one, so there are plenty to choose from. Also, I like James Rollins sigma force novels. They have some similarities although Rollins can be a bit preachy on political issues.

Which character – as performed by Armand Schultz – was your favorite?

Scott Horvath. Gotta say, I did not hate his performance of Claudia's character. Usually, men speaking as women grate my nerves.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

In the beginning...Scott Horvath

Any additional comments?

I came upon this series kind of backwards. My first book, being the Athena Project and then every book involving Scott Horvath after that. Recently, I purchased Path of the Assasin from audible without realizing it was the 2nd book in the series and not the latest novel. I was initially pissed, because they should tell you a book is "re-do" of an older audiobook. After listening for about 45 minutes, I realized I needed to go back to listen to book 1, Lions of Lucerne, since the next book picks up shortly after this book and is a continuation of the story, in my opinion.

I was already a Scott Horvath fan before listening to this book, so I can forgive some of the freshman story telling. In addition, Armand Schultz is one of my favorite narrators, so that added to my delight. Now, I am can go back to Path of the Assassins and continue enjoying the series.
