Publisher's summary

The best-selling legal thriller - and CBS TV series - has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy - but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.

Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers - they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.

A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame.

To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal - this time to save his own life.

Great story, beautifully read

Everyone knows this is a great story, since a blockbuster movie was made. But listening to the book was even more rewarding. More detail, more build up, more intimate. And this narrator is incredible. Off to seek any other book he has read!

Perfect for this genre!

If you want something entertaining and like this genre can't do better than this -it is not literature but still very enjoyable and not too cliche. Highly enjoyable.

Excellent legal thriller

Fast-paced and gripping. Nuanced characters and an intriguing plot. This is a stay-up-all-night thriller. I've enjoyed books by this author before, but this one is his best.

You can't lose with Connelly

This is a very good book. I enjoyed The Closers more, but this is still a very good book. The narrator was wonderful, the writing top notch, and the story ran like a movie in my mind the entire time I was reading it. Ten years ago Michael Madsen, the actor, would have been a great leading man for this if made into a movie. It's that kind of book. Not as blatant a screenplay as the Grisham books, but it still ran like a movie to me...a very entertaining, interesting movie. The dodge at the beginning kept me from realizing what really was happening, which is great. You really love to hate the villain in this book.

A worthwhile, sort of mid-weight reading, written by a master of this genre.

Enjoyed the entire book. Keep the suspense going from beginning until end. This is one of my favorite audiobooks I've ever listened to.

Good story - Good narrator

I'd probably give this one 4-1/2 stars only because I am currently listening to the Fifth Witness which is an even better book. That said I can't say much more than many of the other reviewers of this book. Like other I was a little skeptical, being a real fan of the Harry Bosch series, but Mickey Haller stands on his own and Connelly continues to prove he is one of the best true story tellers in the business. There is more to this book than court drama, but I never imagined someone could make it interesting. Connelly pulls it off and more. No wasted credit here.
