Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

Too confusing....hard to stay focused.

A hard book to listen to. Didn’t keep my attention...I found myself rewinding several times due to confusion.

Not my normal choice of book but a good surprise!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Man to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print but I had a hard time understanding the narrator at some points due to his broken accent.

What other book might you compare The Last Man to and why?

None I have read.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No - probably would avoid them. I get why they used him but it was difficult for me as some points.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending.

A real cliffhanger - can't wait to read more

This is the first in the Mitch Rapp series that I've read, and I was spellbound. Although the level of violence is higher than I like, I think it goes along with this genre (spy thriller). I think it says a lot about a novel when the first thing you want to do when you finish is read another one by the the same author, which is what I'm doing now.

I researched the author a bit. Although he remains cagey about his own politics, it turns out Flynn is a regular on Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, so there is no question where his opinions lie. I didn't realize this when I read "Last Man", and I enjoyed it more because of my ignorance. Now I'm on to another Rapp series, and I now notice the ranting against Democrats and liberals (sort of Ayn Rand, but subtler and in pants), and it greatly reduces my interest in the series, being a Democrat and liberal myself.

I've heard this narrator doing more books than I can count, but he's good, and keeps the tenor and pace of the book nicely.

A great story, explains what is torture.

If you could sum up The Last Man in three words, what would they be?

Afghanistan, torture, brave

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rapp, he is determined, smart, and fearless.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

A great narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I couldn't get into sleep after I read the part how Rickman was tortured and was hit in the groin area because he was telling lies.

Any additional comments?

First time for me to get an insight on what happened in Afghanistan, what Americans are suffering in that area. Informative.

Great Story about the Recent Events in Afgan

What did you love best about The Last Man?

The story line is current and the plot is a great twist of facts and political agendas.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mitch Rapp, he was the no nonsense person who knew where the line was and knew how often he could cross it before he went too far.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but George Guildhall's voice is great to listen especially the female voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Their are Certain governments you don't want to cross then their is Mitch Rapp.

plot was unbelievable

Starts off great and is an entertaining listen. I always enjoy his series but this one seemed far-fetched in the "villain" choice.

Started slow. Better as it went on

Too many characters, too complex of a story, it was slow to develop, but ultimately OK

Another Great Read

I absolutely love how Vince Flynn weaves a story.

The Last Man is on par with every book in the series before it. Well written, and exceptionally narrated by George Guidall.
