Publisher's summary

One of the world's greatest men has been kidnapped! Nobel laureate, financier, and philanthropist Peter Novak - a billionaire committed to fostering global democracy through his Liberty Foundation - has been captured by the Caliph, a near-mythical terrorist who plans to execute him in a matter of days.

Running out of time and hope, Novak's people turn to a man with a history of defeating impossible odds: Paul Janson. For decades, Janson was a legendary covert operative and assassin. Now he has retired, and nothing could lure him back - nothing except Peter Novak, who once saved Janson's life.

Backed by the considerable resources of the Liberty Foundation, Janson assembles a crack extraction team to rescue Novak from his fortress prison. But the operation goes horribly wrong and Janson is marked for death, the target of a "beyond salvage" order.

Now he is running for his life, pursued by Jessica Kincaid, an agent who, as a student of Janson's own lethal arsenal of tactics, can anticipate his every move. To survive, Janson must outrace a conspiracy that has gone beyond the control of its creators. To win, he must counter it with a conspiracy of his own. Janson's only hope is to uncover the nearly unimaginable truth behind these events - a secret that has the power to foment wars, topple governments, and change the course of history.

Very good from bigining to end

Excellent story. Good narration. This unabridged and I am still debating on whether it is better to read unabridged or abridged. Unabridged you get the full book, but you also get the ramblings of the author about minutia which are helpful but sometime distracting. Abridged gets you the storyline and nothing else so you're left asking what you missed. One is 17-20 hours long, the other 6 hours. If you "read" during a commute, you either spend one week or three, unless you hear it during non-commuting times.

Still, worth the download and time

Great Listen

I was very surprised in the way the story takes you from one continent to the other and from one action sequence to another. It is well put together and the narrator is pretty good. It is not predictable where the story is going to take you which I liked.

Narrator's Award?

Wow. Robert Ludlum has always captivated me, but I have to bow down to the amazing depth of the narrator that makes this story so compelling. The depth of characters reached by the quality of the story teller in this books makes it absolutely fabulous! Two thumbs to both the author AND the narrator! Good job guys. Now, when's the next one coming out?

If you like the Bond, You'll like Janson

Fun, fast paced action book and a good quality recording. If you liked the Bond books (which I also recommend) or spy movies, you'll like this book. I'm getting another title from this author.

Typical Ludlam

This book was a typical Ludlam book. Got you going right off and kept your interest all the way to,the end. Ludlam does a good job of taking a good guy, turning the government or even the world against him and having him pull through at the end. Te plots are good and it's obvious he has to put a ton of research into his writing. Get it and you'll more than likely enjoy the entire story.

Solid story, a bit too detailed

Pretty solid book. Paul Michael is a fantastic narrator. I enjoyed the story, but felt at times it was bogged down by too many specifics/details.

Would 100% read/listen to another Ludlum book and am interested in more stories involving "Janson."

Great book

Great story. lots of twists. I enjoyed it. the only issue I had with it was the random music that came in here and there that was distracting and seemed out of place.

reader is rather clipped and that is distracting to me. However, his ability to mimic accents is siperb.
