Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best seller

John Grisham’s first work of nonfiction: a true crime story that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence.

Soon to be a Netflix original documentary series

“Both an American tragedy and [Grisham’s] strongest legal thriller yet, all the more gripping because it happens to be true.” (Entertainment Weekly)

In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence that would shatter a man’s already broken life, and let a true killer go free.

Impeccably researched, grippingly told, filled with 11th-hour drama, this audio edition of The Innocent Man plays like an edge-of-your-seat legal thriller. It is a book no American can afford to miss.

“Grisham has crafted a legal thriller every bit as suspenseful and fast-paced as his best-selling fiction.” (The Boston Globe)

“A gritty, harrowing true-crime story.” (Time)

“A triumph.” (The Seattle Times)

Broke My Heart

If you’ve ever wondered as I do how many innocent people are in prison this book will certainly educate you. It’s a pretty factual book with a good bit legalese but I was definitely taken in by the human tragedy of it.

This is a MUST read!!!!

Just finished the book on audible and it was hard to stop listening! The story is very well written. I can only hope Grisham becomes as hooked and inspired by another true story so we can hear his mastery as he lays out the non-fiction genre. Bravo!!!
Side note: While you may not understand the significance of the first several hours, it all becomes extremely important. Lots of layers here and they are each very valuable to the bigger story. Bravo!!!

Great story. One of Grisham best work. A must read makes you wonder just how cruel the system can be.

Great story that had its moments.

this was a good story however in typical John Grisham I got a little lost towards the end however the Netflix doc should bring it all together.

Great Book

I was fascinated by the writing of this book and shocked at the injustice that took place. John Grisham did and amazing job laying out all the fact for us to hear. and I thank you for that. Looking g forward to your next novel.

Best Grisham book I've read!

I enjoy most of Mr. Grisham's novels and this was especially good. I recommend it anyone looking for an engaging though heartbreaking story.

Wow!

Just WOW!!
Oklahoma, it’s eye opening and shameful that we are at the top of the list for the bad things and the bottom of the list of good things. Those that we place in power need to be held accountable and must be monitored for their actions.
